Coyote hunting. 25y to 100y.
Some places are full of coyotes but they are difficult to hunt. They hide in thick woods all daylight. Maybe some of the short range guys on here won’t mind sharing the ideas that work.
Id like to put a caller out and leave it there. Then turn on remotely when I get close.
buckshot vs rifle?
Let’s hear it all. Everything that works.
Happy new year.

If I'm hunting in close quarters like a swamp,I find that shotguns with 000 buck work the best. For pastures,I use a rifle every time. Rarely,if ever,do I use the same tactic consistently. Coyotes are exceedingly intelligent and become educated quickly. Sometimes depending on the terrain,I'll take both a shotgun and a rifle.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Do you guys always hunt from the ground? Or is a tree stand helpful in the bush? I've never hunted coyotes but I do know of a spot that could use some help.

The noise of getting into a ladder stand seams to push them away.
Maybe climb up and wait an hour before first call.

If it’s in thick bush cover then I’d want something semi auto as they often travel in pairs or threes and you're going to want to take a quick second or third shot. Semi shotgun with mod choke would be my choice. Triple bbb or T in steel or bb in lead if you have it. 00 buck if you like sewing holes in the pelt. Shots would be 35yds or less. I’d use a 22 mag if there were open clearings where i could get shots out to around 80yds. I used to have a .22 hornet that was dandy out to about 120yds.

Re: leaving caller out. I have a Foxpro Prairie Blaster that takes a pile of D batteries. I’m sure it wouldn't last long being left in the cold. I’m sure the batteries would die. You might want to rig it with a jack wire and a bigger auxiliary battery if you're going to leave it out. I’d build a plywood case with styro insulation on the bottom maybe

Maybe just leave the speaker out and plug into it.
I’d like to stay hidden but I don’t want the speaker next to me.

Tricks for hunting the bush for coyotes.
What about setting the caller up and walking in 25y farther?
Maybe. 1hr before dark. Walk in downwind. Set caller on way in 25y from ladder stand. Wait 1/2hr turn on caller. Buckshot.
