So what are your training plans for your dog this Spring? Being as I only have a deaf, poor heart,
rescued terrier right now, I need to know what you are planning to keep my spirit alive.

I have a 3 yo Lab. His obedience is superb, introduced to gun shots, but I kinda got lazy on at retrieve back in a day , so am hoping to pickup on it again this year

He finds things perfectly, but doesn't bring them back [emoji16]

I train my 3 year old lab every day for about 20 min. All retrieving and things to go along with bringing back the game. I take her to the range with me several times a year to sit by my side on the trap line. Of course there is play time, she loves the snow so this was our outing the last snow fall.

Put them in a big box in the garage. I've used a few for making coat racks, and any moose ones I find, I have sitting out gathering moss at the cottage.

I'm getting work done on 2 springers (one almost completed - needing a good home) a setter and an Irish/red setter. Springers are doing well with patterns and "Hup" as I expect them to hup after the flush until sent to retrieve or hunt on. The springers I develop are unlike most in that - not unlike my pointing dogs - there are NO whistles what-so-ever. I expect my dogs to handle for the gun as a common practice. In doing so, you don't need to direct them or should I say, rarely direct them. The key is that more birds are contacted from this stealthy approach than ones where whistles, yacking and hacking, arms flailing are a common/consistent mode of hunting, especially wild birds. The setter is a dog out of my male bred to a female with exceptional blood lines. The dam is out of renowned AA horseback breeding (Hytest Skyhawk, Barker's Blue Horizon, Grouse Feather Mark, Zyggi's Grouse Magic, etc.) . I've never had a dog cover ground quite as fast as this girl and she's only ~38 lbs! She is a relentless handful and will one day make an incredible wild bird hunter! The Irish/red will start will the fundamentals: loading up, handling, birds, gun, etc. It's a busy time of year! Wishing everyone all the best in their personal training endeavors!

It's on the job training every spring here in Ontario once bear season opens. It's unfortunate that we don't have a running season here in Ontario during the off season like they do in some of the US states where you can run and train your dogs during that period of time. You can run them, tree them, then either call them off or leash them up and walk them off and away from the tree.

So it's on the job training with a couple of the older hounds keeping the young dogs on a leash until they get a start. Once they do and have the bear lined out I'll walk the young or younger dogs over to where they got a start and let them snuff out the track. Once they open up I'll turn them loose and should hark to the sound of the older dogs that are running...

I'm planning on running the pup in the NA test. She's doing great with everything except the pointing part so far - but she definitely finds the birds lol
