Ottawa man fined $10K for over limit

A bit of a weird story. Presumably he was fishing with others but took the fall. It’s been my experience that in these situations, the over limits are a group effort.

I couldn't get your link to work.
Yeah I suspect he took the fall.

There's lots missing out of that report....like how many were in the group, how many days were they fishing, what is the possession limit for each angler........you can see where I'm going with this, right? "Taking the fall" is dumb beyond belief, especially, when the JP whacked him with a $10K fine. Betcha he wasn't ready for that. That alone would have been a butt pucker moment. Hopefully, his buddies "chipped in" to help with fine. Good grief, some people are dumber than a bag of hammers.

the ministry should also ask questions of the outfitter if he new about the fish kept and if he did fines for them also. they should inform the guests about fish limits

Who would have notified the MNR about the overlimit?

If the Lodge knew about them being over the limit why did they allow it?

From what I understand, the guys were staying in a remote fly-in fishing camp by themselves i.e. no guide. This is a common fishing trip. Often, a plane will fly over mid-week to see how things are going. A lot of remote camps have wi-fi so no need for the plane to fly over until pick up day.

Could have been the pilot or outfitter… took a peak in a cooler when the group came out. Another possibility is that the group had been there before and word got out (Report a Poacher) that they were fish hogs so the MNR was waiting for them this year.

It may have been a random check, too. Poachers have to be lucky all the time. Law enforcement only needs to get lucky once.
