It depends on which WMU you'll be hunting in for extra tags, but,in some,no extra tags are available. I'm fairly certain any extra tags are for bucks, only,no matter which area it is. I'm also not sure what changes for 2014 are coming. We'll just have to wait to find out.

In WMU 80 they're always for antlered and antlerless. Same for WMU 49 this past season.

Additional tags are usually available in August through a phone in lottery, google additional tags Ontario and you can find out how many are available for guns and bows and which WMU'S they are available in. CORRECTION they were available July 16 this year

Varies by unit. Some additional seals are for antlered or antlerless.

Get them on the internet at the stroke of midnight on whatever day they go on sale. If you had an additional this year the MNR should send you a mailer with all the details in late June or early July.

Some are doe only, especially in the Northwest where the MNR could care less about deer. They want to see a big population cut to help protect moose against brain worm.
Theoretically they wait for winter severity analysis, population surveys, last years hunter success surveys and then decide how many addition tags per WMU will be issued.

Great info, thanks very much. That's good to know, especially for the north-west. We'll be formulating some plans for next year. There's some big changes for our crew afoot. The general conscenses is that it's time for a major paradigm shift.

The archery and rifle tags go on sale in the summer, both at the same time. The additional tags for the controlled hunts here in southern Ontario go on sale in October, and only for in person sales at Service Ontario. Never saw an additional tag for either hunt that was not for a doe only in this neck of the woods.

I know in 92D the extra tags are antlerless only. But I believe the tag system will change for next year.
