Two fixes for that problem are 1] dremmel the rough steel in the chamber to get rid of burrs. 2] Replace factory extractor. [easy peezy-see u-tube.

Never had a single issue with mine, but it was a model from the 90's, seems to be the biggest comparison/argument, the older ones never seem to have an issue, but the newer ones do.

I've read that many of times. The older models are flawless yet the newer ones tend to jam. I'm new to hunting and this would be my first gun. I'm thinking new because I wouldn't be able to tell if a used gun was in good shape at all.

I have a supermag from probably 2007, I did have the failure to extract issues that you've read about. I'm pretty sure they were only evident in the supermags. I tried polishing with steel wool, helped but didn't correct. Took it to the gunsmith, fixed it under warranty, no issues since. I don't fire many 3 1/2's though. If it were me I would definitely recommend a used wingmaster though. I've seen them go for < $300 occasionally, and there is a night and day difference. Super Mag is unnecessary in my opinion. Only advantage is if you run out of shells in the field, and all your buddy has is 3 1/2's.....

Supernovas are $550 or so in black – just get one of those, the newer 870s are just not nearly as good as supernova or BPS. May want to look around for a used one.

I believe I shall be looking for a used 870. Now it's just a matter of finding one. I live in Durham region if anyone is looking to part with theirs. Wishful thinking.

I checked Williams, Accuracy Plus and Gagnons. None of them have any good 870s. You could try Ellwood Epps in Orillia or the Canadian Gun Nutz Forum.
