looking for info for the Madawaska area

Hey guys i am going to be going camping in upper Madawaska river area this year july 31 to aug 4. I am wondering if anyone knows the by laws for target shooting in the area i will be on atv's. I plan to drive through Algonquin park, i will be shooting a 12g and a robinson arms xcr-l .223. Any info is greatly appreciated

June 16 to august 31 is no hunting. Target shooting you are good to go. Depending on how far up the river you will be camping there are even a few gravel pits scattered close by.

Be sure that you have targets and it is obvious that you are target shooting. Gun in case, not just slung on your back, that sort of thing.

I do not believe you can have guns in the park, I know there are hunting zones but I do not believe that you can have a gun in the park while you are camping. Someone please clarify this if I am wrong.

Beautiful area, part of my family is from the Whitney-Wilno corridor, amazing scenery.

I wont be in the park just driving through, i will be staying at the All star resort just outside of Whitney i have seen quite a few pits up there in my previous camping trips. Just wanted to clarify the by laws etc

Great place to stay. Friendly people. They just talk a little funny. Ian will point you in a good direction to do some shooting. If he's not around there is a pit at km 11 on the major lake road. If you really want to stretch out your shots there are good backstop areas on the power line at km 18.

There is a lot of Crown land for exploring and you will be in the middle of the berry season as well.
I don't know if its still open for public use, but the old railbed from Whitney to Barry's Bay used to be a nice camping trip in the old Scout. You might need to join the Haliburton ATV club to use the railbed now, but the hydro line from the railbed up to the park boundary has a few nice lakes as well as a few spots to shoot. You can also run from Whitney south along the west edge of Hay Lake, but stay out of the park on the ATV's. If you go to the east shore of Hay Lake you can also go for miles by ATV.

The rail bed is for public use. HATVA got the boot from the area a while back. RCATV pretends to look after the trails but a pass is not needed to travel the trails. The trail from Whitney toward lake st peter is Where HATVA takes over. I have no idea how their trail passes work.

When pulling out of all star make a right. At km 11 the asphalt road becomes gravel keep right at this point and carry on for another 7 kilometers or so. Can't miss it.
