This was my experience with the Winnipeg store as well. They did have some very nice vintage and antique firearms in stock... but that wasn't something i was looking for.
Just like BP, a huge chunk of Canadian Cabelas seems to be dedicated to crap leisure wear and novelty goods.

But, massive hunting stores plunked down in yuppy playgrounds can only be good for keeping hunting/fishing visibility high; so, keep 'em coming!

I really am hoping that Cabela's does not drop the ball like Bass Pro has when coming up into Canada. Don't get me started on quality of staff ether!!
I have, and as already mentioned, I suspect that the Cabelas in Barrie will be the same as Bass pro in Vaughn.

As one poster has already stated, their operation in Winnipeg is a watered down version of their American store, so I'd expect Barrie to be the same.

Mind you, ordering online, and being able to pick up there without paying shipping might not be so bad.

Ok got you now, I thought you were saying that the BPS in Vaughn was comparable to a BPS in the US...........not even close!

Are they going to allow you to order online and have it delivered free to a store here in Canada??? BPS has the same free to store shipping but not to any of the Canadian locations!!! It would be great if Cabela's does allow this. To be able to place an order online (cabelas.com not cabelas.ca) and have it shipped free to the store in Barrie would be a big bonus and guaranty that what you want will be at the store when you travel any length of distance to get there.
I love fishing but REALLY it is just a way to pass time until hunting season!!!!

I don't see how Cabelas could offer US goods shipped to a Canadian store if BP can't.

There's just so many legal limitations - especially on most firearms accessories - on cross border shipping that I can't see this happening.

I just hope that Cabelas realizes the opportunity that they have. If they roll out this store with the right policies they can basically own the Ontario outdoors market.

One problem I have had in the past is that they won't ship certain things from the US - for example a gerbing electric handwarmer. I just hope that when the Ontario store opens they will carry items of that nature.

It would be no different than it is now if you were ordering from Cabela's in the states and having your order shipped right to your door, lots of items are restricted and they will not ship them and it is automatically in their computer as so. So as long as what you ordered has nothing on the "restricted" list then they should be able to do a free ship to store. Amazing what these computers will do eh???

Well, I know you can order off Cabelas.ca, and pick it up at their Winnipeg store without shipping cost.

I can see the possibility of being able to order some product from the US, but in fact, I don't know enough about the retail side to wade into the debate over SKUs.

As mentioned, the benefit, albeit limited, as there is a difference between cabelas.ca and cabelas.com, in what is offered on either site, is the fact that we will be able to order off the .ca and have it shipped to store where it can be picked up for free.

Versus BPS that does not do ship to Canadian store from there one and only .com

As well, at least ordering from Cabelas.ca also gives you the change to not get raked over the coals in brokerage fees and duty versus ordering from bps.com or cabelas.com
