Deer Hunt - Questions on Tags etc. (WMU: 47 & 90A)
Hi all,
New to hunting, only been doing it for about a year now. I have read the Hunting Regs. but it is in some cases hard to understand. I group hunt deer up north in WMU #47 (Rifle). I also have permission to hunt near home in WMU # 90A (Bow and or SG). I have applied and paid for a anterless tag for WMU # 47. I also want to try bow hunting near home (WMU # 90A) as well as the controlled hunt (SG), again in WMU # 90A.
My questions are listed below:
- If I receive a anterless tag for WMU 47, am I able to purchase another tag for the bow season in WMU 90A?
- If I am able to purchase 2 tags, 1 for WMU 47, and another for bow season in WMU 90A, would I be able to purchase another tag for the controlled hunt (SG) as well in WMU 90A.
- If I purchase a tag for bow season, and do not harvest any deer, can I use that tag for the controlled hunt? or vice versa as the controlled hunt that I could hunt is Dec.1-7 and bow is Oct. 1-Nov.2, Nov.9-30 and Dec.7-30?
- Or if during any of the above listed hunts, is it possible to purchase an additional tag? if so how and when can this be done?
Thanks for any help!

- You can only purchase one deer license per year unless you buy a surplus tag which not all zones offer.
- If I am able to purchase 2 tags, 1 for WMU 47, and another for bow season in WMU 90A, would I be able to purchase another tag for the controlled hunt (SG) as well in WMU 90A.
- You apply for a controlled hunt tag but it isnčt an additional license that allows you to take another deer. It is only valid and to be used with the the license you already bought. It only allows you to hunt during that week of the controlled hunt in the specific zone you aplied for and drew a tag.
- There is no difference in gun or bow tags. They are not valid during a controlled gun hunt without a controlled hunt validation which you have to apply for seperately by Sept 2nd.
- Or if during any of the above listed hunts, is it possible to purchase an additional tag? if so how and when can this be done?
- Some zones sell additional ( Surplus) tags and you can buy these on a first come first served basis.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Thanks for answers and information. So if I am understanding correctly..Since I purchased a tag for WMU 47, (assuming I use that tag) I can not get a tag for bow season in WMU 90A correct?
If am not successful in harvesting a deer in WMU 47, can i use that tag in WMU #47 for bow season?
Thanks in advance!

If there are additionals for bow in 90A you would be able to purchase one and your original tag would be OK for a buck in 47 but only a doe if it has the validation for a doe there during bow season.

I believe there are additional doe tags in 47 , for the bow season. I stand for correction on this , as I can't find the link. Just a seniors mind at work. old243

From what I have seen there are no extra tags in wmu 90 this year at all.....whether it be 90A or 90B.....when it comes to bow season there is no A or B....unit 90 is a whole when applying for an antlerless tag.....

Hey Nvd, terrym already answered your questions in the most perfect manner. Please read and understand his response!
Your problem is that you think there is such a thing as "antlerless tag" which you have applied for. In reality there is no such "tag".
What you have applied for is anlerless validation for your deer licence. It is not another licence, it is the same licence with the added permission to take an antlerless deer in that particular WMU.
