    Default bear not showing itself

    Hello all,

Well i have been baiting a couple of bears for at least 3-4 weeks now with lots and lots of pictures of them... thing is, it`s been a week and nothing to the bait... any ideas why? just to say i am on 300 acres of private land and no one else hunts the property. so someone else not stealing the bears.. but maybe the berries are ripe for the pickings???? what you think..

ps, been getting lots of pictures of a skunk though,,,

I know where I'm hunting the berries are just starting to get into full swing. I'm really worried about another excellent berry crop like last year and not so hungry bears. I havn't been up to check my bait yet, Next weekend I will.

Don't worry about the excessive amount of berries drawing the bears away. Use fresh meat scraps and they'll bypass the berries.

I've often had baits that were hitting before the hunt started only to have them suddenly stop. Give the site some time and you'll see that the bears eventually return to feed from it again.
Where they go and why they go, I have no idea but they will return.

Sawbill is right, just give it time. Sometimes the baits will go dead for days then out of nowhere it gets hit again. Maybe try bringing something different to the bait that lets off a new stink.

    Scud,

Wonder if all this rain that we got the past week just has them hunkered down and feeding locally?

I have seen next to no bears, on the highway sides, or trails.

Which is very rare, especially when I'm around the chapleau area. It was a slow day if I didn't see at least a dozen, now I see none.

I've heard the wild raspberries and blueberries are good crops this year, might be keeping them occupied.
