Things seem dangerously quiet on that file. Has anybody heard anything recently on how this is progressing in Ontario?

I haven't heard anything other than that the Quebec legislation is aimed directly at people that use "shock" collars as a disciplinary compliance tool under the guise (their words,not mine) as a training tool. The legislation makes no mention of electronic collars which are used as dog "locators" when hunting that don't administer an electrical shock to the dog. Hopefully,here in Ontario,the powers that be are more intelligent, realize the distinct difference and aren't as prone to "knee-jerk" reactions.

Good point! After all,we are dealing with Liberals,aren't we?

I'm not aware of any movement towards a ban in Ontario. The private member's bill on this was federal.

I wasn't aware there was any federal PMB. This legislation was Quebec-specific. Wouldn't that make it provincial jurisdiction?

Jurisdiction on things like this is unclear. It depends on how the bill is written.

Regulatory things relating to animals and livestock would normally be a provincial matter. But the federal bill (I think it was C-613?) made it a federal matter by putting it in the criminal code -- i.e. criminalizing the use of e-collars while permitting their sale.

Someone wanted to put that in the Criminal Code? Hopefully,that PMB never saw the light of day. It's good that 98% of PMB's get trashed from the get-go. Most of them are really stupid,anyway.
