the whole fur market is in turmoil right now , last years price structure , warm conditions in the buying regions oversees , Chinese import tax problems and overproduction of ranch mink worldwide have all created this problem , the fur market today is not the same as it was years ago , things change much more quickly and the market rises and falls much quicker , The bulk of the North American raccoon harvest ends up in Russia as an end use , even if the garment was produced in Greece or China , it's been a long time since this amount of coon showed up on a sale and I'm afraid it's not going to be good , just hazarding a guess that about 200,000 of those coon are in dealer price protected lots , but my contacts south of the border tell me there are a pile of coon sitting in small country dealer hands as well as larger production trappers , I'm sitting on a fair number of coon myself and after seeing the writing on the wall I decided to gamble and hold these coon , we shall see if I should have sold or if my holding them will help me over the longer outlook

Hey Mat i know they have lge plastic bags that you can vacuum sealThe problem of holding them is freezer stain which buyers class as stales.I think it would be worth looking into.

Ya I could imagine what kind of uproar it would cause if a school in the gta where NAFA is located ever decided to take a class there , it's a downright shame that sort of thinking deprives children from learning about the modern version of what founded this country , that's neat that you got class trips to FHA blasted sabre

I went to school in the Sudbury area and I remember a trapper coming in for a half a day presentation. He had a fur kit, demonstrated trap setting, even skinned a beaver. I can remember that as a highlight of my school year and every kid was impressed. Couldn't imagine that happening now.

A little off topic.. But I've got a quick question. Is there anyone from the Mount Hope / Hamilton Ontario area that knows where I can sell coyote pelts. Well bow hunting for deer the other morning I had a coyote run 30 yrds and stop in my shooting lane so I killed it, Skinned it and have the pelt in the freezer. So if anyone knows of a place I can sell it or off loaded it please let me know. There's a lot of coyote on my 40 acre hunting grounds and am sure ill get a few more before the end of deer hunting. Awesome guys thanks a lot you've all be great.. But does anyone know a place too buy fleshing knifes or do I need to get one offline. Plus once I flesh the pelt and remove the ear cartilage do I need to put anything on the pelt to cure it? Salt or anything.. Again thanks for all the help. P.s Once in the stretching stage how long do I need to keep it on the board stretcher?
