My daughters Toyota pickup has proven to be a piece of garbage and spends more time in the shop than on the highway. The dealership didn't even want her to bring it in for a trade-in.
So what does that tell you other than you can get lemons in any vehicle.
I purchased a Chev Silverado LT crewcab 1500 5.3L 4x4 c/w towing and off road package in 2010 for 43,000 bucks out the door down the road. I also had it undercoated. First pick up i ever owned. Two issues with it to date ; right cam replaced under warranty but due to milage my coolant lines( oil and tranny) were not covered but dealer cut me a break seeing as he was getting to replace my camshaft. Some telltale rust showing on bottom inside of tailgate. Roof makes funny noise at high speeds but only if the wind is hitting it just right ? Gas milage ? 225-250 km to a quarter tank ( 94 L ?) depending on how big of a hurry I am in to get to the cottage.
My old Tundra (2004) has been rock solid. Old school, regular cab and 8 foot box, V8 4x4, but has a similar foot print to the average current Tacoma. Won't pull or haul like any of the big 3 today but a great truck nonetheless, good off-road, in large part thanks to its smaller size. I love it. I'd probably also love a new offering from any of the truck makers, although Might not feel quite so enamoured after 10 years.
all new vehicles use Horrible paint and primer. Even the steel isn't up to par like it was in the early 1990's.
If you don't under oil your vehicle twice a year, clean it regularly (twice a week), you are going to have rust in no time.
My g/f's 2014 Hyundai Elantra went back because you could see orange rust spots on the brand new white hood.....Garbage...
The salt they use these days gets in every little nook and cranny, I'm interested in Fords all aluminum body next year.....Suppostly 700lbs lighter as well.....
I have a 2012 dodge ram 1500 and its the best truck I've ever owned. Extremely comfortable and it drives right over any doubts you have of it. I lived in the city for the first 2 years of owning it, super easy to start no matter what temperature and super safe during the worst storms, I don't remember ever sliding or losing control. Now I live on a 200 acres farm and now it works almost every day. I've been in the bush, through fields and swamps with it, with the 5.7 hemi I'm never worried about getting stuck. It's also pulled a stalled tractor loaded with a trailer full of maple through a 60' mud bog and it never looked back. Oh and I get 600km for $80 right now driving rual and highway.
I've had all of the Detroit 3 in my fleet at work, and owned them personally as well.
All makers have their strengths and weaknesses. GM seem to have lots of little things ( airbag sensors, catalytics, calipers, etc), Dodge seems to have larger ones like upper, and lower end issues ( I've rarely seen one make it past 100,000K without having to have some major engine / tranny work). Ford seem to be random with their issues, and we seem to do better with those in the fleet.
Personally my vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Titan SE Crew cab. I like the design, fit, and finish, and at 215,000k it still drives / rides like new. Other than doing my exhaust manifolds ( which are a known issue) I have had 0 problems. Of course the only downside, and everyone who owns one will tell you, the 5.6 is a thirsty engine.
"Camo" is perfectly acceptable as a favorite colour.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?
