Nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with a family looking for a dog tailored for their needs. If it's a 'mutt', so what ?

Go far enough back in time and all of today's pure breeds were hyphenated cross breeds at one time....even todays Cockapoo/Spoodles are now considered a hybrid 'breed' in Australia.
Pure breed breeders are largely to blame themselves for the explosion in demands for hyphenated dogs...they demand to much money for a papered pure breed , so folks who want a dog will find alternatives and there are many that will take advantage of it.
The fact that you have no clue what the breeding can produce health wise or temperament wise means nothing in this designer world
Bit of fear mongering...if you get Pet Insurance, they have a seperate rate table for your breed...why, because of the know of the inbred health issues with some breeds.
No guaranteed of health..good or bad... in purebreeds, mutts or people for that matter

True. Which is why one needs to do lots of homework on their breeds' health problems , and consider a breeder who has done everything possible to breed healthy pups from health- cleared parents. Put the odds in your favor.
It has been my impression from reading many threads on several forums for too many years , that folks are very concerned about how the line hunts, but don't seem as informed about essential. health clearances

That's true, just a heads up, if your buying health insurance from any of the big companies, you will be pay more for extended coverages for certain breeds, regardless of the breeders. However, by selecting a quality breeder, you're mitigating the possibility that you will need to submit a claim...but you still pay extra

Just to raise some more hairs, a friend of mine just got a "doubledoodle" not sure if it's a new official breed, or a clever name for a mutt. But as some may have guessed it's half labradoodle and half goldendoodle. Looks like a fluffy little chocolate milk coloured hairball.

Of course the breeder did all the necessary health clearances that would be needed for Labradors, Goldens & Standard Poodles before doing any breeding? LOL!! What about even the bare essentials like hips?? And they paid how much for the pleasure of owning a mutt X's 2?
