Funny that eh Trimmer, it would seem the left and media don't understand the word contingency and what they are used for or can be used for if nothing else needs them? Hmmm good god this is a hard one. It's time for me to do my monthly/yearly budget. So many expenses, so much revenue, hm maybe I should build in a buffer (just incase) I think, don't know, those are called contingency funds?

Year end, hmm no big emergencies, but am receiving less $$ than expected because revenue has dropped because oil has...I have lots in the "buffer", scuze me, sorry contingency fund or I might have to borrow in order to close the books on the year. Oh, wait a sec no I don't.

Wonders how many on the left understand how to run a basic lemon aide stand and what a budget is, or that we don't always have to borrow and go into debt.
    ******

Thinking back a couple months when oil tanked and Harper announced they'd delay the budget a little. Some went ballistic accusing him of more evilness and cooking and this, that the other. Some others said "I don't know, mightn't it be prudent to delay a month-two" and see what happens with Oil? Does it stabilize in which case budgeting for next year is a wee bit easier, does it continue to tank, does it bounce back? More?

As usual, Mr Harper got it right and the left and those that called for the bogey man and sky to fall?

Remember, Harper is an economics guy. He isn't hampered with having been a lawyer

I still maintain, in time (maybe 20-30 years) it is quite possible Harper is going be referred as the best ever and Canadians will not only thank him, they will revere him.

He's not perfect, has his edges, some things the jury will be out on. But when we look back in 30 years at what has been going on here at home or Ontario or elsewhere in the world between 2005/2015 and counting….He has been remarkably astute, and more, especially on the things that matter (economics, fiscal stuff).

No fair... I wanted to use that comment.

The media (CBC especially) will want us to think there is a choice between Mulcair (with his $5,000,000,000 to $10,000,000,000 a year universal child care + ) and Trudope (budgets balance themselves...) (NOTE: both have promised CBC more money)and ignore the benefits of the Conservatives (who might reduce CBC funding). The balanced budget act and the municipality fund the Conservatives are setting some big landmines up for if they loose and items that fit in with their plan if they win. It would have been nice to see some of the debt reduced but balanced is still better than we will get from the Liberals or NDP and still good in the light of the oil drop.

I'm sure somebody will try and explain it to Trudough but that could be a waste of time and angry Tom....well he is always angry and knows he is getting kicked out of Stornoway this fall and must be house hunting and that's a frustrating thing, LoL.
I think this budget served it's purpose and will definitely hurt the opposition. The media will ignore it as fast as possible but it sets the tone nicely for the campaign.
It was funny. Peter sure didn't get any answers to his questions.

I love it when Mansbridge and the CBC lefties are left standing with their butts puckered when their interviews go south on them. He was screwed,he knew it and he couldn' recover. Priceless........just pricelss. LOL

Because the questions were loaded and Oliver while he may not be a world renown public speaker like a 30yr news anchor is actually quite a bit brighter than Mansbridge. Oliver is a lawyer, Harvard MBA and career investment banker , i don't think he needed to be schooled on selling GM shares by an ex Walmart employee like Mansbridge. Watched the at issue panel they in fact did not follow Mansbridge's attempt to lead them down the sky is falling path and Harper is the devil. Of course Mansbridge is uber partisan that goes without saying but he looked foolish in that interview. You would expect that from someone like Wendy Mesley but Mansbridge should be above that. I guess not.

Remember, Harper was never actually a practicing economist either ...

The legislation about governments having to balance budgets is a bit rich given the Conservatives have never managed to do it before this election budget.

It's not Harper's political orientation I disagree with. I disagree with his gutting of our government scientific community with everything from polar research stations to the long form census. Governments need that information to make informed policy decisions. I also disagree with how he has sought to restrict information from reaching the public at every term, turned to gigantic omnibus bills to minimize debate/discussion on important issues, etc.

BC, he's not perfect and some things the jury will be out.
But the size and cost of govts is why…. so many things… pick a spot, any spot, any area to decide we don't need.. and people will find reasons and arguments against them. Try to save $ anywhere and people will find reasons/arguements. Some may even be good/acceptable, hard to argue against.

Everybody knows Ontario is in the crapper and "ruined" thanks to things. Most people know, the ones getting hit hardest are the middle class.

High schools teachers are going on strike in Durham now, Peel next.
I don't have any issues with them, none!!!. Not even in this.
People will always find reasons/arguements, maybe even good ones.

/looks at healthcare, looks at Drs desperately needed and nurses desperately needed and them walking now to.
/looks at Johhny Q getting kicked in the gonads with new taxes/fees/bills/can't save

/wonders when any govt will ever live within it means until people realize

We cannot afford to do everything, pay for everything. Live as we have been living..Our appetites to "have it all"…See the personal debt loads and personal wanting everything...Not unless we want to end up like Greece or Ontario. Even the US..cant.despite their massive debt. Their scientific community and funding of blows ours away... Look at their education system…or healthcare/social services.

Utopia does not and will never exist.
