I bear hunt & respect this animal, there is a time and place to shoot a bear & this is not one of them..........
    Police Brutality ??????
    Another Classic post !

Yep, police mishandled this for sure !
They should have talked that bear down from the tree, taken it into custody, fed it lunch, swing by the local Social Services office and get some funding for a one-way Greyhound bus ticket for somewhere up towards Sudbury.
    Problem solved.

The ammo they use may have something to do with this. Some police use only FMJ ammo. Hunting rounds may require less shots to take it down.

All these comments and so much passion. Only one comment about bringing back the spring bear hunt. I thought this thread would be full of them. I suppose there's not much point though. Kind of like preaching to the choir.

Jacketed hollow points and PSP rifle rounds. The last thing they need is a pass through round hitting an innocent bystander.

I've read of other reports where the cops have had to take multiple shots to put down a injured dog or deer. I take it a 9 mm is that great of a caliber for deer?

Several years ago a friend dealt w/ had bear that had been wandering around the village. He was old school & figured it was better that way than waiting for the Ministry of No Results to come up w/ a solution.

Not to misdirect this excellent thread, but, those little .223 rounds may be OK for CQB with armed subjects, but, are too light for shooting large animals in cases such as we have here. We used to be issued with Rem 870 12ga with a couple of boxes of buck shot, but, most of us carried a box or two of slugs....just in case we needed to put down an almost roadkill.
I'm having a huge issue, not with the Police, but, with OMNRF sloughing off this issue onto law enforcement. If anything,Police should have whacked the Bear, from the get-go. They took a huge chance getting into a pissing contest with the OMNRF.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Alot of people. Blame cutbacks but if they cut back then the budget should have went down and not gone up I think some is just pure laziness nobody wants to do any work anymore just sit in the office
What's scary is comments like this which show people lack the basic and rudimentary understanding of how our government works and manages budgets, allocates resources etc. You add that to the complete ridiculousness you see when citizens criticize law enforcement and you have to shake your head at the collective stupidty of our society.

Did anyone ever consider there is no one to criticize in all this? A frikin bear became a threat to the public. The MNR have had thier department, particularily the wildlife portion, gutted and so they don't respond. Cops do thier job and protect the public with what they have. One bear is shot. He's a big bear and didn't go down as quick as you like. Ya right. How many of you will have no problem flinging an arrow at the same bear if he came into your stand on a bear hunt?

No one did wrong. It's a part of life. Get over yourselves and grow a set.
