From the picture I couldn't tell for sure, but don't you have to secure the barrel? Won't the bear just pretty much roll the barrel away. It looked like the barrels in those pictures were just being rolled around the ground.
Some guy's say they use dog food for bait. I was wondering if I could use Heifer replacement meal mixed with molasses I also have lots of fryer grease.

Skull, keep the pictures coming.
I was out checking baits this afternoon. Hung a couple of beavers at each site today. Also set one barrel up at one site and put 3 beavers inside.

For sure they're tied to the tree if not will be gone in no time if you can zoom in to the back of the barrel you'll see the cable
I try with dog food but no work as great as the popcorn

Hey Skull
are you finding better results / attractiveness with popcorn over dry dog food? Are you adding anything to the popcorn. As we all know, even for humans, popcorn by itself is blah! It's all about the additive - butter - salt whatever.
I've used lots of dog food over the years and tried popcorn for 2 years but it was a huge pain in the azz trying to pop all the popcorn I required in my turkey fryer pot. And when I added in the price of the popcorn and oil and propane and time it was not cheap.
I may have to invent a big continual feed hot air popper

Popcorn is expensive to use and ALOT of work to mix, especially the mixture I use. Get a commercial popper if you use a lot of it. I add in filler bait as popcorn alone wont keep a bear at a site as it goes right through him.

I put grease or used oil from deep fryer so The popcorn won't be so dry
Then all the oil is going to stick to their Paw they will be carrying the sent Trail everywhere they're going and hopefully other bear well pick up The sent coming back into the bait
Yes I do have commercial popcorn machine only way to be efficient with half hour I'll pop 45 gallon drum full
Check Kijijji is Lotta popcorn machine for good price

definately secure the barrel... not only will they roll it away, i have seen pictures from a coworkers camera of a bear standing up walking away with the barrel in his paws...
almost anything soaked in molasses or fryer grease will work... the fryer grease is the attactant, the feed is the filler... i will use what ever i can get cheapest from my feed store, and just pour the fryer grease on it... last year was a few bags of dairy sweet feed, which already had molasses in it...

Dang Skull, those are some big bears for sure but I am not to sure I would want to eat them , lol. I like the 200 pound tender ones but I gaurantee I would not pass up one of those monsters if I was given the chance.. I have also had good luck with fryer grease and molases poured over corn and oats and I also throw in 4 liters of fruit punch flavor crystals to keep things sweet all in a 55 gallon drum chained to a tree.
