Snapping Turtles actively nesting with the rain
The wet weather has the Snapping Turtles out anywhere there is gravel or soft earth. Last week when I drove into town I saw 3 of them on a 14km stretch. Today we had one at the edge of our driveway. It dug 2 holes and then proceeded to dig a third. The last one was pretty deep. I was surprised that she was out there the whole day! The ground should have been nice and soft with the 2 inches of rain we got. A nice all day soaking.Attachment 29958Attachment 29959Attachment 29961

I found one hit by a train. Eggs were all over her. I couldn't how many eggs they carry.

Did you by chance bury the eggs somewhere? Sad to see one get killed before they have a chance to lay their eggs

That's great Sharon! I did the same yrs back and I actually put them in the flower bed out front and put a wire screen enclosure around them to keep critters away and when they hatched I took them down to the marsh to let them go. Cute little guys compared to what they grow up to look like.
