Why should there be any reason to be suspended with pay... Cops always look after their own. It is disgusting.

Almost everyone is suspended with pay - innocent until proven guilty in court. The way it should be.

Not when it is a cop being paid by my hard earned tax dollars.
Even most Chiefs of Police want the law changed latest to comment on this was Chief Brian Larkin , he made the statement in last weeks KW Record.

They don't always look after their own and nor should they. I think you will find that when one of them is alleged to have committed a crime outside of work for personal benefit that they will be pursued and prosecuted without prejudice. There are examples of this happening such as Darin Cooper from Toronto. No one helped him and a lot of cops helped put him away. http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/toronto-cop-arrested-charged-with-robbery-1.219927 . Kevin Lee is another example where cops from his own force investigated him to the fullest.

This guy from Hamilton was caught on a wire tap by police. He could have easily been tipped off but he wasn't. This guy's is gonna have a tough time. Already enough evidence was provided to the crown to get the guy detained and denied bail. No help there.
On the other hand if a cop is alleged to assault someone, plant evidence, or theft while in the execution of duty yes you will find that they stick together because they have to. A lot of these types of allegations are unfounded and tactics used by criminals to defimate in order to skew there own prosecution. I won't use your language of always.

He must be an idiot. I bet he'd want his pay until proven guilty.
This is a democracy. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty ie proven beyond a reasonable doubt. As it takes 2 years to get things settled in court, why should someone and their family go without pay until they are found guilty or not guilty.
I had a boss once who wanted me to take a leave (without pay) because she was concerned about my health.
Unbelievable.
I grieved it and of course won.

Of course a chief would want to stop the practice. He is management. The paid, suspended officers still come out of his budget but are of no use to him...whether they are guilty or not.

I don't mind the paid suspension while things are before the courts but if found guilty you must pay it all back to the date the crime was committed .

If it was up to me, with all the evidence against them , suspend them without pay , then perhaps they wouldn't stall as long as they do , then and only then if they are proven innocent by way of the courts or hearings , they then would receive their pay retroactively.
If found guilty, too bad so sad but you screwed up you're out of here good by good riddance, no appeals nada end of story.
