I wonder if her speech about her wild game and hunting experiences is true.
It kind of sounds like it was just a fairy tale written up.

She said her father hunted and had owned guns, didn't say she was a hunter/shooter. She spoke with her aides who took a One stop hunting and firearms course (likely in Quebec but we'll lay that assumption aside) who's instructor told her no one needs a semi-automatic firearm for hunting because they are dangerous. Sounds like he was lead in a loaded line of questioning and some inferences were made.

She also believes that no one hunts to fill the table other than maybe some natives.

Hunters and legal gun owners are minority in Canada. JT and Angry Tom know that so they will think nothing of throwing us under the bus to cater to their predominantly anti gun base. They will be the next government here even if only a short lived coalition. Prepare for the worst.

    Two obvious points:
    1. Talking to one instructor is not consulting the public.
    2. Political speeches are full of lies, and this is likely one.

The bit about hunting no longer being necessary shows her true colours: "Your objections aren't important, anyway."

I don't know how much a bill introduced in the senate will carry as the senate has very little power. It will have to pass thru the HoC where the Conservatives will stomp on it. As well it will die on the table once an election is called.

Like it or not the Conservatives are the only option for firearms owners. At least until they finally get the registry put to bed.

I suspect it is a trial balloon to test the public's reaction so that Muclair and Justin can understand what they will be able to get away with if the get elected. If one or the other wins the election or they form a coalition government this bill will be brought back and rushed through like the registry bill.

This is also the reason for trying to find the remaining copies of the registry, with the remaining registry local Police forces would actually be able to contact those who at one time semis.

Quite correct. It would still need to go thru sub-committee and public consultation.

I believe that you were correct in your initial response that this is a trial balloon. I also believe that although not put forth by the Liberals in the HoC it has all the makings of things we have all warned/been warned about if the Liberals get to form a government.

    Namely,
    Making all firearms illegal
Disallowing semi automatics (they essentially are doing this)
Central storage for prohibited firearms (now being renamed).

What comes next? Pump action bans? Lever action bans? Bolt action bans? Scope power limits?

My gut instinct tells me they will ignore levers (just a hunch) most people associate levers with the old west movies. But pumps well some consider them to be the same as a semi.

But the natives might associate levers with the Wild West and buffalo hunters, and John Wayne killing injuns.

Pumps will be forever associated with Arnie and Terminator.

One reason I now think this is not a trial balloon is there is no effort to publicize it. There has been not one peep on this from the CGC, Poly Se Souvient, or any of the usual suspects. This despite Hervieux-Payette's social media campaign for their support.

It seems to be out of left field.
