We take many things for granted until we get sick. Recovering myself from the cyclospora parasite.... not totally washed veggies/fruit.
We are often too cavalier about picking up dog feces from other dogs on a walk etc.. too. Very easy to get a parasite .

Sharon - there is a program on TV called - monsters inside us - it covers true stories of people picking up parasites from different sources and what can happen to them - I'll tell you one thing - it scares the heck out of you - one girl was going blind - finally a eye doctor saw a worm in her eye - she picked it up from her garden where foxes and coyotes did their business - so make sure you wash everything and don't eat anything not cooked enough - some people actually died from a parasite -

Have you seen the red and orange parasites running in the federal election? THOSE are SCARY!!!
sorry, couldn't stop myself...
Learn all you can about nature. What we don't understand, we fear and what we fear, we destroy.
Teach a young person to hunt and fish, after all, someone taught you.

What are the chances?
I know what you are talking about, be cautious and do what you can.
I actually have a cousin down near Tampa who was bitten by a bug, they think it was a spider and she ended up with a flesh eating bacteria. They caught it early enough but scary for sure.
Be cautious but don't live in fear, you could be hit by a bus or have a helicopter drop out of the sky on your head as you walk down the street (That one actually happened), you never know.

I agree , but take precautions : wash your fruit and vegetables VERY well, if your digging in the dirt wear gloves, if you're picking up dog poop wear gloves, cover your skin in the bush and wear a repellent.
When I was sick I'd rather have been hit by a helicopter - easier to diagnose.

You can't become immune to $H!T unless you eat a bit of it.
