    I was looking to get a decent safe, TSC has a Stack-On for half price today (online only), (one of the better models, carpeted interior with shelves, fire rating, dead-bolts etc)

    just wondering if anybody has had good or bad experiences with them or has anything to comment

    I'd rather find a used one to save a little money but have not seen any

    the one on sale is $620 for 24 gun (which I am aware is probably only big enough for 10 guns)

    Just as a heads up; a TSC sale usually just brings the price down to be competitive with places like Canadian Tire....better deals can usually be found if you shop around a bit or wait til CT puts the same one on sale even cheaper.

    I picked up 2 16 gun cabinets for under $350 in total from CT.

    They are not carpet lined but they work really well and are tall enough for a 32in barrel pump gun.

    Pretty sure this is the safe that I currently use. The safe actually holds 14 long guns if you put them in strategically. I have been happy with it and paid 599+tax on sale at CDN Tire about 2 years ago. Regular price at CT at that time was $999 so I think $620 is probably pretty good.

    It is certainly better than any of the non fire rated cabinets as all of those can be opened in seconds with a decent crow bar. I am certain this one could also be opened by a determined intruder but it is heavy duty enough to stop a crackhead committing a crime of opportunity.

    I think the empty weight is between 4-500 lbs. Mine is lagged to the concrete with 1/2 inch redhead concrete wedge anchors and is raised off the floor with 4x4s as protection against minor flooding. I also added an aftermarket heater to control humidity.

    If you have a Costco membership check out their safes. The stock is hit and miss. I forget the price but I wanna say under 500, and its just as nice as the ones double the price in the big box stores. It's carpeted, shelves, digital lock, 5 bolt system I believe.

    I have two Stack On 10 Gun safes and the pistol/ammo small one (CT $99.00 and $59.00 when on sale two yrs ago). All bolted to floor or concrete wall. They serve the purpose, nothing fancy. Both gun cases smell like hops and gun oil...lol. Just like the Qm did in the Army, minus the wet canvas smell...

    I guess that's begs the question;

    I have one of those CT 'Stack-Ons' in the man cave....it meets the FA requirements for gun storage and only cost me $60 (scratch and dent in the clearance section ) .

    Not sure why guys want to spend a fortune for a safe that will survive the coming Apocalypse and will deny an overly determined thief. I see those safes and it seems like overkill.

    Worst case...I have Home owner insurance to cover any loss.

    Not sure how $500-$600 is a fortune when virtually every firearm/scope combo I own is worth more than that.

    On the off chance something does happen it is your prerogative if you want to rely on a profit driven third party. Me i'd rather be filling my tags while you are busy arguing with the insurance people and waiting for your cheque. I'd also be interested to know how that cheque will replace heirlooms that have been handed down from earlier generations.

    In reality I'm not really worried about the thieves it is the police pulling a "High River" that concerns me. To each their own.

    I tried to get an 8 or a 10 from TSC. I called and they said they were in stock. I got there and they were out of the box and they couldn't find keys. They were locked and the keys were no where to be found. It was a flyer special at the time too. Do your homework before the drive as my experience was not good. Two locations. Finally I brought the flyer to another retailer and got the flyer price.
