Unclear about shotgun plugs..
My shotgun will hold a total of 7 rounds. It is pump.
Do I need a plug for it? Planning to slug hunt for deer.
I just need clarification, found in the general firearm guidelines that a repeating or semi auto shotgun needs to be plugged to hold a maximum of three rounds in the mag and chamber combined. Thanks!!

Well, yours IS a repeating shotgun, if you are hunting ANYTHING with it then it needs to be plugged....

Regs and patvetzal are correct.

Thanks! First time owning a shotgun and thinking about hunting with it.
Now, where might one find a plug?
I was unsure about the definition of "repeating". Apologies, I feel a bit silly now.

Repeating...not a single shot. Gun when fully loaded has more than one cartridge in it. Did you take the hunter safety course?
You can just cut an appropriate length piece of dowling for a plug.

It's been about 6 years, and I've never hunted with a shotgun. Was looking for clarification. Is this not the place to come for advice? Thanks for the hospitality.

You can make a plug out of a word dowel.. keep cutting shorter until yo uh can hold NO MORE than two shells in the magazine. . Set up so it's 2 of the biggest sized shells...
Or you can try to find one from a gun shop..

It should of come with a plug but if not a piece of wooden dowel will work fine.

What is unclear....the regs say maximum of 3 shells so if your shotgun holds more then YES it needs to be plugged!
