""If you notice the younger guy, the trapper and his wife, they have really nice stuff and a really nice house but they are doing it living off the land.""
Those two are not just living off the land (if its the two I am thinking of) he is a Outfitter/Guide and has 2 camps that they run.

Don't forget about the gov supplied boats, motors and Skidoos. Gives a warped sense of values when they pay $10 for eggs, potato chips etc.

He is living off the land, he is just doing a better job at it.
I have friends up in the Yukon, they have a 20 acre farm, he guides for moose and sheep and she has a big garden and sells a lot of stuff to the people around. They can drive to their house but they are living off the land, a lot more than anyone here could think of.
Some people make a life from hard work, some people choose to work to make their life hard.

I've been watching life below zero for a few seasons, I also wonder how much is for the cameras, or how little...
a while back the Hailstones oldest daughter was excited to get a semi-auto .223, not sure what make but it was well used,
she was spraying bullets into the herd like BA Baracus from the A-Team, so they do get a few more modern arms now and then
still a good show, the best is the guy who lives alone in the Brooks range on the lake, it SEEMS the most authentic

I think the only reality show that has any credibility is Highway Through Hell. I refuse to watch any of the others as they insult my intelligence and unfortunately, blasting away into a herd of caribou and hoping something drops would be reality.

I'm with you on that Sawbill. The rest are ridiculous and I have to scratch my head in wonder that anyone wastes their time to watch that sillyness?

I watch a couple of these shows when I want to watch TV - they are better than all the other crap on TV - and the scenery is real nice - a lot of it is no doubt made up but the shows do give you an idea what life is like up in the north country -
One thing about most of the people on these shows - they probably don't smell too nice - doesn't look like they take many showers or change their clothes very often - probably a seasonal thing -

Has too much time on their hands
I see more of them folks going to AR type guns and every time thy try to use them thy freeze up. Lol the young guide was trying to get a shot at a herd of caraboo and his gun would not fire a single shot. Had trouble closing .lol to funny.

Joe, the life in the north is as depicted. What infuriates me is the incompetent citified boobs they've chosen to depict that life style.
