Newfoundland Brook Trout

I had the privilege of taking a couple of weeks vacation to Newfoundland just as the Spring Brook Trout season opened. I had a great time there, and went fishing everyday (rain or shine... and even one day in hail...) and always returned with my limit. Since there are no sport fish in NL, the trout population has no natural predators (other than large birds) so they were hungry, and plentiful. None were huge, but all were pansies - great eating with the largest getting up near 18". It was great time, and so I thought you may like to see a few pictures.

Thanks Sparky. It was a great trip. Nothing that compares to the kind of guys you're holding in that profile picture! But excellent fish for eating none the less. And boy were they tasty....

There was a little riffle of water next to my grandmothers in Port Rexton. Use to go down there with a pole, line, sinker, hook, and a cork float, and flip them up onto the bank when they bit.

Miss those days.

I know. I grew up doing the same thing. It's oddly satisfying to catch a brookie - at least for me. I fish for Bass, Pike, and all the rest, but I still crave my annual trip home for some brookies. Even more satisfying this year, as I started tying my own flies to flyfish for them.IMG_5514.jpg

Nice. I'm jealous. Headed home for 3 weeks at the end of July. Can't wait to get my feed of specks and fresh cod!!
