hunting chanterelles

After the rains we've finally had the woodlands are blooming gold. So far we found close to 4 Lbs.

It has been really disappointing so far. Got my first feed between two trip mid July, usually it comes late June, and went to look for some this week end and nothing. The bush is really dry, we need some rain up here.
Last year was amazing for chanterel (still have a few pack in the freezer) so I don't expect to be that good this year anyway. Seems to be a cycle just like most harvest, apples, berries and so on...

Time to purchase a good reference book on mushrooms. Not something you'll want to do without being able to positively identifying the mushroom.

I found them in mature hardwoods near beech mostly but checking the web they grow in coniferous forests as well. What I've figured out about shrooms is they are where you find them just spend time in the woods.
