I do care about FAIR cost. I'm sorry to hear that for you fair cost = china. It maybe news for you but you cannot touch goods online and I like to take a gun in my hands before buying it. These WERE the little guys (compared to other chains). So many disconnects in your comment...

Having worked at a SAIL and seeing who they retain as staff after launch... I agree (generally) with your assessment of the staff's knowledge & abilities. They keep whoever will work for the lowest dollar and keep their PAL current. That's the end of their criteria list.
However, Cabelas is a whole lot more serious about staffing their expert counters. Sure, you're going to see regular retail sorts in the clothing, footwear, novelties depts, that's just a given. No expertise is required there.
Go to any of the firearms, bow hunting, fishing counters and most of the time Cabelas staff is going to school you.

You mean you didn't have to show leg to sell a gun?
"Camo" is perfectly acceptable as a favorite colour.

No... guns are an easy sale.
The Buck Expert brand of goods is what required "extra special customer service" to move...

Perhaps you misinterpreted my comment. Perhaps I misinterpreted yours. Let's try this again.
I think you said you don't care much about good treatment and knowledge. I would equate that as you not caring about customer service. I think you then said that you do care about better prices. Hence, you don't like seeing LeBaron go.
What I'm saying is, if all you care about is price, then go ahead and look for the lowest price. Some of us appreciate knowledgeable and friendly staff when we go shopping. Those people are out there, but in my experience, they were not at LeBaron.

I also stopped by the store. Personally my advice for now would be, don't bother. Giant 50% off signs all over the place and 'sale by so and so auctioneers' . Except the only things that seem to be 50% off are socks and a rack or two of old stock clothing. Everything else is 10% - 20% off of the full mark up price, which is probably just the same as someone else's regular competitive price. They also seem to have some stock that is several years old, which has been marked up to reflect current differences in Canada - US exchange rate. That is to say they may have bought it wholesale when the dollar was at par, but have now marked it up to 2016 MSRP which reflects the current large difference in US-CAN exchange rates. So they'll make more money selling it "on sale" now, than they would have if they sold it full price a couple years ago. Also you'd think that a going out of business sale might be a quick clearance, but the cashier said they were hoping to be open until the end of the year. So if you want to stand in a long line to save a very modest amount off the MSRP, go ahead. But I won't be back until a real sale begins. Seems like just more of the same from the 'good folks' at LeBaron.

I enjoyed going to the Markham location, a nice quick stop, prices were in line with everyone else. Crazy website though, that had to contribute to killing the business.
