After growing a food plot, setting stands and patterning some great bucks I set out for a hunt and the landowner informed me she no longer wants anyone on her property. So disappointed. Not a good start to my deer season.

"2016-17 opener" - did I miss something? Was the season extended into 2017?

That sucks, from my experience this has been caused by one of two things: complaints by neighbors or the land owner (husband) has taken up hunting.

If you have not already done so I would ask the landowner if there were any problems with the hopes of correcting the situation. You could also offer to work around the property, this has returned the best results for me.

Private land is getting harder to get each year, when I first started bow hunting I could knock on any farmer's door and ask to bow hunt - always got the same response: "Bow hunt??? Buwahaha, sure, go do what you want as long as you do not interfere with the local run and gun, bowhunt, buwhahaha" Now, the properties are either owned by Antis or the its already being hunted. Its tough to lose the land but the good thing here is that you are not cold calling and can try and figure out what the problem is so it can be fixed.

Brutal. Sorry to hear that RyanO....

Was out on my stand for the first time on Monday. Sat still 15' up in my ladder stand contemplating life, squirrels, a grouse flushing in a nearby thicket and the colours of fall from 6:30 to 9:25.... My spot is usually dead after 9:30 but I decided to eat the apple I brought and stretch the morning a little.

At 9:45ish I thought heard what sounded like deer coming form the direction deer should be coming from.... after about 10min of super auricular effort I determined I was hearing something deer-like walking my way. Of course it was in the thickest area and I could not get a visual. As I concentrated all of my earttention on the direction of the sound, trying to figure out why this animal was taking so long to get out in front of me, I hear a definite "deer sound" coming form behind my right shoulder. I was looking out to my left so there was no chance of sneaking a peek. The deer ended up walking right (I mean RIGHT) under my stand and then into my sight line out from below my left elbow. The doe stopped 5yds away from the base of my tree to have a leak and a crap and then moved along in the direction I was hearing the sounds originally.

After she wandered her way out of sight I finally saw what had been making the "deer like" sounds, 3 good sized bearded turkeys pecked and foraged their way across my area at about 20 yds. Seemed appropriate for thanksgiving day!

Great way to start the season for me! I was tickled.
