I hear stories of cougars up closer to Armstrong, ON, but I have yet to see evidence. One co-worker was apparently warned by a CO near there - watch for cougars.

The numbers may be real low because this area may be poor habitat.

Some time ago the Ontario Cougar was listed as 'Extirpated', this means the numbers were too few to count. Presently the status has been bumped up to 'Endangered' implying an increase to the polpulation:

I saw one 30 years ago, it was also seen by one other individual, the animal had been tracked by the Michigan DNR entering Ontario, but that was a long time ago and at that point the Cougar was listed as 'Extirpated'.

Could the rumours about the MNR re-introducing the cougar be a result of capture and relocating the animals?

I have no doubt there are Cougars close to Armstrong. I would think there are Manthers up there as well.

Logic applied says there is not a natural/wild/reproducing population of cougars in Ontario.
Cougars are the outdoorsmans equivalent of "urban myth"..

I don't believe they are re-introduced but they were all over Ontario at one point.

There are moose around where I live, I have not seen any or seen the tracks but I know they are there. There are bears around where I live, I have not seen any or seen any tracks but I know they are there.

To just say that a cougar sighting must be that someone has drank too much of the neighbours finest is a huge insult. I have not seen any but I know of a few people who have. One in the big bush of Eastern Ontario, one closer to Hwy 7 and one south of Ottawa. When there is an all beige cat with a long tail walking through the fully mature wheat that is not a barn cat and the long tail says it is not a lynx or a bobcat, what other options do you have?

Ive seen a picture someone got of one on there deck in haliburton, walked right up with the deck light on. No mistaking it, was right at the glass door. Saw another picture before of one dragging a deer on someones trail cam out near kinmount. I didnt take them or know the people well who took them, friends of the wife and she always showed me when they were shared with her. Nit much input but ive seen those pics and i buy it
