How many hunters like to eat bear meat ......I like it wery much , how about the rest of hunters ?
I shot them far away from the dump site 90 km from the last town , beside the bluberry pach
For recipe make as Hungarian beef goulash (Use Bear meat)
Or put in the owen little water under later add veggies cover it roast for 3 h
Never had bear ,
The last one I got near the dump tasted like mobile oil,old chewing gum and plastic patio furniture,but other than that it was real good.LOL
Never taste bear but i've eaten bare many times!

Ever see some of the stuff that is fed to pigs? Also think about it, if a speckled trout that you are feeding worms to weighed 150-200lbs like a bear can you imagine how disgusting it's daily intake would look? Do you realize that wild turkeys eat bugs , mice and rotten fruits? Don't let what a bear eats scare you.

Shot one a couple years back near my cottage close to Vankoughnet. It was a young bear about 175lbs and he was delicious actually my favorite game I have had.An interesting note. My butcher said to get the best out of bear he would remove all the connective tissue between the different muscle groups as this was what would add the strong greasy flavor .I had it made up in steaks, chops, roasts and instead of burger , sausage. It was all awesomene.
Except for habitual dump bears. Many years back a buddy brought one back from moose hunting. I love my bear meat, it's not strong flavored generally but this one bear was so odorous you could not cook it in the house at all. It was still edible, albeit quite strong.Quote:

Got the job of skinning a nuisance bear a couple of Junes ago. Huge old male and the park wanted the hide/head but I could have the meat. It was just like eating veal. I couldn't believe how mild and tender to meat was, compared to a few smaller fall bears we have had.
like someone mentioned, the trick is to remove ALL fat while butchering as it goes rancid quickly in the freezer.
Have taken 2 bears and both were excellent tasting.... its all about the location and how it's treated once its on the ground. Cool and remove the fat ASP will result in the best meat possible.....
The meat is excellent! Although you're mostly going to be hunting them over bait, it still makes for an exciting hunt. Best of all, there are tons of bears so you've got a very high chance of getting one.
don't mind eating bear at all! pepperettes and sausages with a few roasts thrown in for fun!!!
One of the best wild game meals I ever ate was bear ham. Another was bear Swedish meatballs.
Cooked nice and slow in crock pot can't tell the difference from beef.

I have heard skinning a bear is a nasty job for some reason. Maybe the amount of fat.
Bear is my number 1.......keep them in the 200 lbs range and you're good to go. Tender and tasty!

I've used a turkey roaster on a bbq and it works well. Just run it through a paint filter or cheesecloth once it has cooled down some. It lasts a long time at room temp. I never have tried to refrigerate it but I guess it would last even longer.

Bears are harder to drag and a bit tougher to hang than deer due to the lack of handles but super easy to skin when warm.
Bears also do not resemble a human when skinned and hanging. One would have to have quite the imagination to make that assumption.

Shot 2 both smaller tasted very good! Had another guy in gang shoot a little one and we roasted it hole was like pork. Guy at work shot one over 400 last fall tasted like

I'm certainly not speaking for Woody, but in a lot of cases here in Northern Ont. when protecting your camp, kids or pets, the bear get dragged away somewhere in the bush and left to nature. Happens a lot more than you can imagine.Quote:

definately at the top of my list of favorite meats, i dont go out looking for the 400 lbers though, i like them 200 and under, last years cubs... also mine come from a area away from dumps with tons of acorns and beechnuts and blueberries around. gotta get all the fat off though, as it is what ruins the taste... the 1st bear i brought home the wife wouldnt eat the meat at 1st, then finally i wore her down and she tried a steak... well she loved it and wanted me to go shoot another one lol
As a kid we'd go to the local dump and watch the things feeding. I still can't get that image and smell from my mind so I have no desire to eat one.

Has anyone noticed worms in their bear before? I butchered one a few years ago a 200lb sow (not a dump bear) that had 2 inch white thread like worms in it. They were mostly in the neck area in the connective tissue between muscle groups, a few elsewhere as well. I didnt see any actually in the meat just between the layers.
TM, I believe a 200 lb'er, particularly a female is closer to 5 years old, maybe even 6 years. A dump bear might get that weight in 4 years because they don't have to travel or work for its food.
September bears aren't too fatty. You can also render the fat and keep it in the fridge to use as you would duck or goose fat.Quote:

i tried a 5lb batch of 2.5 lbs of bear and 2.5 lbs of deer sausage last year... wasnt terrible, but the ones with pork are definately betterQuote:
