Read a post about some guy taking his Cabelas lifetime warranty waders back to BP/Cabelas only to be told the new pair of waders given to him doesn't carry the lifetime warranty anymore. So I return a coffemaker to CTC within the 90 day period and they give me a new one. Okee dokee ! but I'm given back the old receipt and told I don't get another 90 days on the new unit. That's not right in my mind. Brand new unit with no return policy ????
I can understand that policy, though at face value it seems unfair? To offer another 90 day deal on each new unit, the contract could go on in perpetuity? At which point does it end ? The 3rd. 4th, or 5th unit, etc?
I went to Cabelas with my mom who was looking for hiking boots, they told her the warranty now is only 1 year, we promptly walked out of the store.
Makes it much easier to just buy things off Amazon or straight from China.
Heck, it's only 90 days. If there's a likelyhood of the replacement failing within another 90 day window, I'd say there is a serious quality issue. Given CTC logic, it is acceptable to go through 4 units every 12 months, without compensation.Quote:

It happens quite often when I speak to some restaurant owners.
I'm not a consumer protection lawyer, but I would say that when a person buys a widget, the sales contract begins with that particular widget? If widget breaks within the time warranted, then it's replaced, but the original contract is for the original widget, not the replacement? Just my opinion, not going to debate it.Quote:

Boy you can sure tell the weather is terrible and everyone is on their computer!
Best advice I can give is to shop locally whenever you can and from long tenured businesses. They are used to taking care of their customers. Saving a few bucks is not always the best long term solution.
I think he may be talking the extra warranty. You can buy an extra longer warranty at the sale of the purchase if it is offered.Quote:

I bought an oscillating tool from CTC not too long ago. First one burnt out after warrantee was up. While doing some drywall work in the basement I hit a hidden nail and snapped the linkage inside. The tool had about 10 minutes of time on it. Danged if I could find my receipt so I had to bite the bullet and fork out for a new one--again!
So, DO NOT LOSE YOUR RECEIPT.
All in all,maybe Ontario can spearhead this in the world.
Make and enforce an SG law(my term :ashamed:;)-means Stop Garbage).
If the products breaks ,as many times we know, well within"reasonable "life span expectation-OR at least under warranty,slap the manufacturer an SG fee.
After all, we have customer protection measures-why we do not come up with Stop Garbage measures too.
All these "short lived"products end up in a landfill!!!!

If you take a picture of your receipt (make sure you have the code portion visible as well) and they will honour the pic as the receipt

Well that would put a serious dent in the boat traffic and importation from China. We can't send them canola, they can keep their garbage in China.
As long as you create an SP (stupid people) fee at the same time ..... for people who use the product outside the normal boundaries of the product, break it and then go back to the retailer expecting a refund or replacement!Quote:
