Flea Control

Dogs have been wearing Bayer's Seresto collar now for several years. No health/reaction issues with my boys. All my training group have been using them with total success. I leave them on while dogs are in the water and still seem to get good protection.

I like the idea of a single pill though but cost wise the seresto is a better buy for me. When I get south in the winter, they are the first things I order, hopefully they become available in Canada shortly.

Sorry have to agree with MikePal on this one ... Bravecto here too with all dogs and we have been training and trialing this spring and summer thru high tick areas all over the province and into the US. One pill, three month coverage and I don't need to worry about taking the collars on and off due to the dogs spending excessive time in the water with a flea collar on.

My understanding of the Bravecto product was, that it doesn't repel and your dog can still bring the tick into your home clinging to its fur. I do not want my hunting companion/family pet bringing ticks into my home potentially latching on to a family member. That was the main reason I went with the Seresto collar . So yes the Seresto collar since it repels, in my opinion would be the best choice eliminating the possibility of infecting a family member over the Bravecto that doesn't repel since it is a systemic, where as the tick would need to bite the dog for the product to work(kill)..

I hunt around Long Point, aka Tick Central, using Nexgard. Have not had a problem with ticks on the dog when I get home. I would expect the same with Bravecto.

Would depend on the size of the tick since some are the size of a poppy seed. My vision isn't as good as it use to be. lol

Our Labs have been on Bravecto for quite some time, no fleas and no ticks even though their training often is in and around tick infested areas.
On thing about fleas, ever since we have not had any cats around, we have not had any fleas either, and as was mentioned, treat not just the dog , but their bedding area also.
Our dogs also do get bathed regularly.

I used Bravecto last year and am using Nexgard this year. I live in a highly tick infested area. No problems with either product and not one tick. I had three ticks on me this season but none on my dog and she was right in the thick of the bush.

No, it performs the same as Bravecto, however, I've yet to find a tick on my dog. When I used Revolution (a repellent) I found ticks (dog ticks) on my dog.

Ok thanks .I used the K9 Advantix II for many years which is also a repellent and it worked extremely well. I wanted to get away from it because of its topical application and coming in contact with it on my hands when I pet my dog. That's why I switched to the Seresto coller as well as the benefit of it repelling fleas and ticks.

Thanks for the info, folks. No other pets in the house or camp. Constantly around squirrels and chippies so they are probably the source. The fleas are diminishing after 36 hours. I can see the impact on them. I realize new fleas are likely hoping on from the environment.

How do you go about getting a prescription from your vet for some of the newer treatments?? I had to get more Revolution while at the camp and the local vets refused to sell me any unless I authorized a "wellness" check. I had the prescription from my vet in hand and her immunizations which were current as of April 2017 but no dice. Wellness check required by law they said! BULL! I had to have my vet fax an authorization to the local vet then wait 24 hours for the prescription to be filled ( even though the fax arrived 5 minutes after requested) so they could make their point.
