GW, my comments are usually rebuttals, to comments that I feel are untrue, and in good conscience I could not let pass uncontested. Almost all of my political points, are made in the political section , as they should be, where they can be viewed by those who wish to delve into the political spectrum.

True, but I'm not suggesting they have.

I'm suggesting that the govt is making a meaningless gesture in place of taking needed action.

They are essentially giving away something they perceive to be of low value: fishing licences. (Note: no free driver's licences or licence plate tags....) And there is a cost to a cash-strapped ministry; this seems not to be a priority.

The gesture is symbolic and is intended to appeal to core supporters by appeal to small-c conservative values.

And for those who think I'm purely partisan on this stuff, check back. I also criticized the previous government's decision to change the name of the MNR to MNRF, although its mandate was unchanged, at substantial cost. But no one got upset at me for that.

Which makes one wonder why some come onto these threads and stir the political pot when they can do it in the proper place.

I'm not sure about the "meaningless gesture" part. Anything we can do for our military people to show gratitude and support is OK in my book. Free fishing licenses is the least we can do.
