I hate Elvis. I don't go to his concerts, I don't buy his records..
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

Interesting 91 numbers-Thank You for posting.Good pastime to analyze them.
Otherwise by looking at the data, this is a rather vaguely composed list ,and probably could be used for not much more then entertainment.
Plus-as it was mentioned, they do not even bother with double reporting 2 calibers...........speaks volumes abut the accuracy of the study.
But hey-another journalist made the monthly quota...........

Well a little more to it than that:
After exhaustive research and compiling sales data from tens of thousands of firearm sales over the course of a month, we have compiled what we feel is a relatively accurate list of the most popular firearm calibers.

I ran some numbers, based on this sales report Mike.
If we agree that the report deals with non hunter calibers, black powder, rim fire and shotgun calibers ,all together, lets see taken this report to pieces, omitting non hunting calibers. After all,we are on Hunting Forum, not shooting forum..........
top 3- 4
Rifle: omit 223( i assume this is due of being a popular plinking caliber too): #1 308 #2 30-06 #3 30-30 # 4 270
Shotgun : 12-20-410-16
Black powder : 50-45-54
Rimfire : 22 LR-17 HMR-22 WMR
Just as a peculiarity, the so much heralded 6.5 mm Creedmore made the 69-th place. The going out 270 at 265 sales vs 19 sales of 6.5 mm Creedmor .
I made some small mistakes perhaps, here and there-sorry for that.
Seems 308 rules in hunting calibers, with 12 gage-50 cal and 22 LR in other categories.
My note on 308-many guns here are perhaps sold as plinking - shooting platforms, not hunting arms.Which makes 30-06 being the "second"first.

At 19th place is doesn't seem to have fallen from grace, even in a country that loves their pistols and AR's. Check your math it's approaching a century old...lol

In the mention article:
6.5 Creedmoor vs. .270
This one has been garnering so much attention we even wrote an article about the 6.5 Creedmoor caliber’s virtues. The hype appears to be legit. Creedmoor fever infected the shooting community over the past couple years and it’s leading to more than just talk. We’ve seen Creedmoor’s share increase 13x at AmmunitionToGo.com from 2015 to 2018. That’s remarkable growth!
The .270 is a vintage classic, unveiled way back in 1925 and remains one of the most popular general-purpose cartridges because it performs like a stud. But the rookie 6.5 Creedmoor does something it cannot: it fits in a short action bolt gun, or perhaps even more preferably, an AR-10.
And yes..words on the .308;
With that in mind, take the venerable and highly effective .308 Winchester into consideration. It is perhaps the most versatile cartridge in North America. The .308 is commonly used to eradicate pests and predators, but there are loads heavy enough for the largest game in North America. Deer hunters use it a lot too, so it’s pretty much suitable for all game in North America.
The .308 is also a popular caliber for precision and competition long range shooting. But it does have limitations because a caliber capable of doing all things exceptionally well is an act of fiction. It is very good at a lot of things, but there are just some hurdles it can’t get over cleanly.

It's a FireArms/Ammo forum..and shooting and hunting are synonymous...bullets are designed to kill.
