Who says we have to live locked up? The old folks homes are still locked up they are fully vaccinated . Doesn't that matter ?
Florida was open for months without vaccines before vaccines became available.
Remember lockdowns were only ment to prepare something we still haven't done. The USA had room to care for 130 thousand covid patients they maxed out at 122 thousand people being treated for covid.
Why haven't we taken steps to prepare for a covid wave ? We just stop other medical needs to treat covid our hospital's are full that's why we are shut down . We didn't prepare for covid we ran from it . If we had room to treat covid 19 patients we wouldn't be locked down the economy wouldn't be crumbling.

Our vaccination rate has never compared favourably with the Americans. They are currently almost double our rate. Canada 18.6%, USA 35.03%.

If you want actual proof the vaccines are effectively reducing the transmission of the virus just look at Israel. Over 60% vaccinated and new cases down to +/-200 per day for the entire country with lockdown eased since February.

Israel is starting to see the South African variant getting through the Pfizer vaccine. Apparently most of their cases were the UK variant when they began vaccinations, and it seems to do well enough against that, but not as well against the SA.
It's only a matter of time. Any of these vaccines are only an evolutionary step away from being ineffective. That mutation could occur in any single infected person anywhere in the world at any moment in time.

We might get some extra doses from Israel as well lol. Israel has forgotten to pay up and being threatened to pay up or the vaccines will go elsewhere. .

Israel did pay for the first 10,000,000 doses but it seems there is some fun and games in the Knesset and Pfizer is worried when/if it will get paid.
I was listening to the news yesterday and when asked about the vaccines and going back to pre-WP (Wuhan Pneumonia) their expert went on about variants, effectiveness and duration vaccine will work and on and on.... sounds like his thoughts were that we are never going back to be years before the lockdowns and restrictions or atleast many years. Hard to believe some of the experts though...
Masks, heck they can stay forever, but NOT mandatory, just look at the cold and flu rates, in other countries we see them used alot and seeing someone sniffing and coughing and red faced in Shoppers or the grocery store always made me wish we could learn something from them. There obviously is still the possibility of someone getting the disease even after the injections.

I was going to bring up a video of the Japanese shopping districts but it is the middle of the night there and a Sunday (actually Monday now in Japan). The search on shop did show up Russian store, very busy, some wearing masks, some with noses sticking out, some not wearing masks, looking at the "per Million" they aren't that different from us.

Sunday and the time of day in other parts of the world, looks like Russia is about the only choice under "Shop"

* NOTE on page 3 there is a camera in Wuhan, but it is 2am there as I write this.
The effectiveness of the vaccines against the variants is huge.
"While the risk of infection for vaccinated individuals has shown to decrease substantially after vaccination, certain variants - most notably from South Africa - have been found to have mutated enough to decrease the vaccine's efficiency. "
Justlied and crew were being criticized for ordering many times what Canada needed and depriving poorer countries and it is more and more feeling like some of the Liberal choices and actions are beyond incompetence.

We are never going back to pre lockdown times as long as everyone believes we can't. It is up to the people. If the majority decides it's time to end the lockdowns then they are over. For now I think people are too pacified to do anything because they think the vaccine will end the lockdowns. I am not convinced, there are too many bureaucrats drunk with power and there is a certain portion of the population that likes being the best rule followers. The real suffering from the lockdowns hasn't begun yet and when it catches up with everyone and enough people start caring hopefully it isn't too late.
As far as the vaccine efficacy goes. I am curious about the testing rates of these countries pre and post vaccine roll out. Did the rate of testing stay the same on both sides of the rollout? Also does the drop in cases coincide with the end of traditional flu season? I fear everyone wants it to be the vaccine so bad that no one looks at anything else. I haven't looked into any of the questions and I am not sure anyone has.
Without undue coercion from the government I think the vaccination rate for the population will max out at between 40 and 50%

That alone should be a wake up call. Fully vaccinated residents are being forced to live locked in their rooms.

That is the about normal rate for the annual flu shot, even though we know even the H1N1 will kill G'ma in the nursing home.
What is proving out is that this mRNA 'medicine' is really only going to keep hospitalisations down..which was the goal of the Dr Tam from the first step....lockdown to flatten the curve....plank it !!

Yeah that is also a very valid point and I'm sure as much of a contribution as the 2x vaccine rate vs Canada.

With their case rate, for a long while they were getting more 'natural immunity' than immunisation. Same in Canada, they figure for every known case there are 10 who have got sick and not bothered to get a test. Extrapolated, that means we could have as much as 10 million naturally immunised peopel already in Canada, far exceeding those with the vaccine.
