Police need only query the plate to get vehicle and owner info. They will still have to stop and check the actual driver to check licence

And a check that comes back "not insured" might also be possibly wrong as has happened to me LOL

FYI, the police have long had plate reader tech in their vehicles that automatically will alert if a scanned plate A: Is valid B: Has a driver without suspension.

No RFID needed, as distance and proximity for RFID to work is quite close.

Not sure if maintaining your vehicle should be a problem for some.....personally I don't drive a POS that has dash lights on all the time...
I find it very offensive that you would suggest a forum member might have a tin foil issue, I am therefore assessing you 3 demerit points, no I changed my mind I am giving you a verbal warning. LOL

I also heard the rumor about annual inspections. I haven't really looked into it, or seen any proof.

As far as I know, there are provinces where this is a requirement for years already. If you properly maintain a vehicle, it isn't hard to pass an annual safety. I could certainly see an opportunity for fraud if that system were Implemented.

I am pretty sure it cost more than what we pay for them to produce the sticker and have someone at the private facilities send it out to us or sit there at a desk and hand it over to us.

This system has been removed from a lot of other jurisdictions a long time ago, you still have to register your car and update the information, just not bother with paying as it can all be done in a database online.

If the government can produce evidence that there is a serious problem that warrants inspections then I might buy into the program. Otherwise, they can pound sand!

Maybe there is hope, sure could use that money, didn't want to use my pocket cash to pay for some new truck parts and would hate to tell the wife she has to go down to Ottawa Byward Market and beg for money she might disagree with me.

I'm offended that Gilly made you back down so easy, as a mod you are supposed to stand your ground even if it is covered in swamp water. 1 day suspension, no review and 3 month probation. Ya gotta be better then this when you come back.

"Starting in 2023, DriveON will introduce a new, more convenient vehicle safety inspection process for owners of passenger vehicles.

    The new DriveON program will:

save commercial motor vehicle owners time and money
    reduce fraud
    reduce harmful emissions
ensure vehicles are safe for our roads
The DriveON program will roll out starting with vehicle emissions testing facilities in Spring 2022, followed by motor vehicle inspection stations later this year. Existing motor vehicle safety inspections stations will be contacted to explain the transition process, beginning in Summer 2022."
