Liberals fail Canadians; vaccine inoculations are pitifully slow.

A lot of Canadians have died and will continue to die because our sitting Government failed to manage this pandemic. Apparently throwing the piggy back at the problem was the correct response.

It's happening in like .001% of the vaccines. People with sever allergies we're warned NOT to take the vaccine until they were cleared by a Dr.

Well you have to get an exemption letter to attend school if you are not inoculated with the standard vaccines right now, so there is something around that.

Just because you have potential for an allergic reaction, doesn't mean you can't get the vaccine...just means you have to let them know and have the EpiPen handy and a nurse to watch over you after the shot. The 'sever' allergic reaction they've seen so far are medically treatable.

Better advice from the CDC...wait to get the more traditional vaccine (ie NOT the mRNA vaccine)

A medical professional doctor would have weighed the risks versus benefits.

As expected that orchestrated PR stunt the Village Idiot did to garner a handfull of Vaccines before Christmas has come back to bite him in the azz. There was no follow up....nothing changed and Canada is at the bottom of the list to get the vaccines. Lots of backlash in the news this morning.

I heard that the success of Israel with 12% of the population already inoculated (vs Canada .07% ) is that they paid a premium to the producers to ensure early delivery. Canada ran around and spend far more money buying 214 Million dose from various companies.

Its called home schooling, like the kids have been doing last year.

Why would anybody want to trust a vaccine without proper testing trials and no liability to those who take it? Sure you might get sick or even worse, no worries because you take it at your own risk....no thanks.

My Sister Inlaw got the shot, no problems and no side effects.

I heard in the news last night that only about 3 million Canadians will get the vaccine by the end of March.

6 million dose for 3 million people as you need 2 to be effective.

The cost of pharmaceuticals is largely a result of the RnD ( which would include clinical trials) fyi. That's why the get patents.

1) I don't understand the fear of getting one. I plan to. I accept the risk. Yes there's some risk but for most people that risk is no or little different than the risk of Covid, or everyday life.
2) I don't understand why people don't understand the logic of healthcare workers being at the front of the line. The more that the end up on the sidelines, the worse it gets and the longer this drags on. Plus, most healthcare workers would ( I think) fall into the age demographic we want getting it. The vast, the vast majority of cases are with those that are between the ages of 20-50. So whether thinking about the population at large, or their own small community ( of healthcare workers/patients). The faster 60%-70% of them are immune, the faster they reach herd immunity.

3) It boggles my mind, that JT seems to be getting a pass from the majority on how bandly they've bungled this.

I linked the study pertaining to heart damage in the last thread on vaccines. And the percentages of Covid survivors with heart damage are not small. Just went looking for it again, couldn't find the same one. But simple searches on heart/lung damage from Covid will give everyone plenty of reading.

Remember, most politicians and TV personalities were quite happy to report that they had been infected with covid.
Most if not all of them had a quick and successful recovery.

Young professional athletes are rarely severely affected unless they happen to have a morbidity.

No worries JBen, regular old pneumonia was causing long term effects on the heart and lungs before the covid narrative came to pass. Otherwise healthy hockey players have been known to drop dead on the ice from a heart attack every now and then as well.

I'll take a disease with a year of patient treatment data available before injecting myself with an experiment. Devil you know, or somewhat know in this case.

Lay in bed gasping for each and every breath for months on end and then figure if you should have gotten an injection or not. Its a no-brainer for me.

I have 6 close friends who are doctors. One is chief of surgery at a decent sized hospital. One is a pediatric surgeon. One is a trauma surgeon. One is heart surgeon. One is an ER doctor. Last is a respiratory specialist. These are some of the smartest people I know. They know medicine. Off the record they all say to get it and have all taken it already.

I believe them over any politician, media or anything I read on the internet. When offered I will get it.

With over 80% of covid deaths coming from LTC facilities, why is our economy shutdown because of 80 ICU covid patients out of many millions of people were tapped out?
The media has done a great job of spinning it to the point of fear mongering.
Why has Health Canada approved vaccines that have not properly been tested and hold zero liability to the makers, tell us its use at own risk?
I would be more concerned about the path our governments are heading in.

No worries GW11. I am very much a "too each their own type". I was asked, why I felt the risk of side effects from vaccines were "worth it". There is definitely some risk. There's risk with Covid as well. From sever side effects to death. For me, it's a wash.

Will say, just as we may not know yet, long term effects from the vaccines, we still don't know yet, what long term effects from surviving Covid are either. We do know, they are finding permanent heart and lung damage. And not just in older people, young, extremely fit and healthy people. One risk is a known (permanent Heart and Lung), one risk unknown. And for me anyways, permanent heart/lung damage, aside from all other considerations not something to screw around with. But that's just me.

Remember the "Momo challenge" last year? It was the most Googled, most feared and most shared thing on the internet for about a week, and it was totally fake. The fear and panic was created by parents themselves sharing the fake news around as fast as possible on social media.

This is very much the same. The virus is definitely real, the worldwide reaction to it is complete nonsense fueled by whichever way the media wind blows it.

There may not may not be a "conspiracy", but I don't think it's large scale. I think a few people who knew how the world would respond made a lot of money.

People are pretty easy to fool when it comes to viruses because they generally don't understand how viruses work at all. All those "lasting covid effects" you're linking were already happening with other illnesses before we started putting covid under the most powerful microscope in the world... online instantaneous news.

This is the first time we've had a pandemic in the age of instant information. The world was ripe to be taken advantage of. I'm not saying you aren't correct JBen, you very well may be, but I so might I... keep an open mind. You seem to.

As for medical people and "smarts".

One of my best friends is a psychologist who makes hundreds of thousands a year. We're playing online poker tonight, he usually gets his butt kicked.

I'm close with a few others who are high profile medical people, one of the others joining the game tonight is a nephrologist, another is very high up in management our local hospital. I would classify only one of these people as "smart" beyond "book smart". The others are just as easily hoodwinked as anyone else.

People put far too much stock in titles. Some of the smartest people I know live perfectly happy lives in low profile jobs. They don't make oodles of money, but they aren't easily fooled.

Well, these articles ask questions but do not provide answers.
They examine after the fact. How do they know for sure that the patients cardiovascular system was functioning properly prior to the covid infection?

Only a thorough examination with MRI, CT scan and / or angiography prior to the event would ascertain that damage was done due to covid.
Anything else is pure speculation.

A person can be walking around with the left anterior descending artery (LAD / widow maker) blocked at 95% and experience a cardiac event that will damage the heart.
Ask me how I know! Covid / influenza / pneumonia puts an extreme strain on a cardiovascular system. No surprise there and sometimes you may not even be aware that you have a morbidity. The question that continues to go unanswered and unacceptable is, why is it that since March of last year our province has not been able to provide 1 extra ICU bed for 1/3rd of Ontario hospitals.
Instead at 80 ICU covid patients we are maxed out and have to shutdown the whole province of millions.
Our governments have failed the people to levels we've never seen before, both at the federal and provincial levels of government.

Not much in this mad world makes sense.

I've read comments from friends on FB and even here, that they are reaching the saturation point. Bombarded daily with numbers of case counts, deaths. Which I suppose can lead to information over load, desensitization, and even "confusion", aka "who can we really trust". In part, this is where I wonder/think there's merit to other things. What is all of that stuff but "chaos", confusion and instabilty. Ripe for people take hold off to their advantage?

There's also the part of me, that is beginning to sense/think/feel/suspect, that bombardment, shell shock if you will is also about "justification". I mean think about it. When the dust settles, be it in 3 months or 9 months, given the measures, the restrictions, the financial cost to governments and people. Social cost showing now like suicides and more to come in the years to follow. It has to be "worth it" right? In for pound, in for tonnes? <<<This speaks to your point.

We have so many we can do both Canada and the USA. . They are of little help tho if we can't get them. Like I said before we put all our egg's in 1 basket and cracked an egg. So far the vaccine plan will be of little help next fall at the rate it's changing.

USA's: deaths from Covid: .12% (424k of 331 million) of population.

The average deaths per year in Canada: 285K, .75% of population.
Heart disease kills .2% (72K) almost 3x as many as the Virus has killed.

The average deaths in any year in the US is about 2.8 million...or .8% of population.
Heart disease kills 659,041 (.2%) people annually in the US, twice as many as the virus.

Neither death rate from the virus is significant in terms of a pandemic and in the grander scheme of things.

If we're going to trickle out vaccines over the next year or two, we'd best get used to hearing about new variants.

The smart approach to this would have been to hold off on administering any vaccines at all until there was enough supply to vaccinate a massive amount of people in the shortest period of time. The current approach will only give rise to vaccine-resistant variants. Especially if the vaccine only prevents serious illness rather than infection and transmission, which appears to be the case more and more.

To me, it feels like we've reached that point where we were so concerned about whether or not we could that we didn't stop to consider if we should. Yes, they said that in Jurassic Park, but Michael Crichton was no dummy.

Quick math, the way I learned 50 years ago anyway. Roughly 40 million Canadians, give or take. That means 80 million vaccines needed before fall as we need 2 shots each. You need to be vaccinated every year, at least that's what they do for all the other flu shots so we need these shots before next winter, according to the PROFESSIONALS.
So with there being ABOUT 40 weeks before next December, we need 2 million vaccines PER WEEK to make the numbers work.
Let me know when we are getting 2,000,000 vaccines in 1 week to start this program we have been told will have everyone protected by September will you?

Our borders (via air) were never closed. And for the most part there were no checks done on arrival, until recently. When I was travelling in Feb/20, when other countries (UK, Germany, Turkey, Pakistan) were doing basic checks on arrival (temperature checks, wellness survey) there was absolutely nothing when arriving back in Canada.

There are several private clinics doing covid testing now. I think it costs about 250 CAD.

We arrived in Panama, on Feb 4th 2020. All airport personnel were wearing mask, and we had to have our temps taken and answer the standard questions. Panama.

We came back through Pearson from Florida about March 6th 2020, was even thinking about coming back a few days earlier but didn't. Fastest walk-thru ever to get out of the airport, no checks at all. Our hotel in TO was empty though, we were the only customers in the bar/restaraunt.

My daughter arrived yesterday from Costa Rico , she had been down there over two weeks and flew in via Chicago. She had to have a negative test 72 hrs before she left there (pre booked). Either had to go to the hotel for 3 days here and complete another test or self isolate for 14 days before going onto Edmonton. So here she is.

Doesn't matter now a year later, all the variants are here now making their rounds.

From my research most of the long term nursing homes in Ontario are owned by companies with direct ties to Conservatives, on their boards and so forth Mike Harris being up and center, I posted about this several weeks ago.

My SIL worked for one of these homes in Orangeville a private home, the management rationed everything, even protective equipment provided to them by the Province, they tried to save money to run up their profits, shameful ,shocking business.

Being on the board would be irrelevant if during the 15 years of McSquinty and Wynn they decided to fix the problems. They didn't. Why would the Provincial Government be paying into private run long term homes and BTW where the worse infections and death's took place. On the other hand the public and city funded home faired much better.

The issue that has caused the current disaster is the regulatory framework and the the enforcement of those regulations. This is the sole purview of the provincial government. Who is running a home and who is on their board of directors will be irrelevant if the province does its job properly. Doing the job properly means effective regulation combined with strong enforcement of the regulations. For profit companies will always do the minimum that regulation allows whether owned by conservatives, liberals, communists, Chinese etc.. That minimum operating standard is 100% determined by the province. In the 15 years Wynn and McSquinty were on the scene they continued the half arsed status quo ineffective regulatory minimum that has lead to the disaster we are currently witnessing. They had ample opportunity to improve that regulatory minimum that is the clusterf#$% now in place. They didn't - and that is on them 100%. If they had corrected the regulatory deficiencies and implemented strong enforcement the private homes would not be in their current state no matter who owned, operated or funded them.

Whether the status quo continues remains to be seen and will be on Ford.

Who pays in is relevant because we now know Private homes had more death's overall. The present government who BTW have been trying to manage this, have done a terrible job of inspections and compliance to date, so its already on Doug's back and has been since he was elected June 29, 2018, so in over 2 full years on the job with the pandemic being over a year, he can't get his act in gear.

The only forewarning for the previous governments of Mc Guinty and Wynn would have been SARS and I agree with you that should have been a red light and they should have done better.

The cozy relationship's with any ex politicians being involved in these homes is unsettling to me.

Well it's a two dose treatment and Canada decided against following the instructions the instructions which say the second shot must be in less then 30 day's not 4 months as the Liberals have said. The manufacture has stated this, Israel has said this based on their tests and Dr. Fauci has stated the same.

Something else to keep in Mind even our current vaccines you can still get diseases like Chicken Pox and Mumps even if you had the vaccine, the key is herd immunity.

I am a frontline worker and received my first shot and was scheduled for my second shot on April 7. I just received notice that my second shot has been cancelled until further notice.
Government is doing this to boost the numbers of people getting vaccinated. I guess if they delay the second shot there will be technically twice the numbers vaccinated. Looks good for their numbers for an election. They don’t care if it’s not effective, they only care for the numbers vaccinated!
