So who watched the leaders debate? Given all the news about the virus, firearms, and record spending I was hoping for more actual substance out of them. Seemed like the usual rhetoric.
I watched a bit of it until it became blatantly "same old, same old". I'm still not convinced that any of them will make a dent in the great RED machine of the socialists. Canada is too far gone down the communist rabbit hole.
None of them don't jump out at me that's for sure..... Can't believe this is the best we have to offer the Canadian people....
I watched them both ( I’m fluently bilingual grew up in Quebec City). Came away disappointed. I don’t like McKay. OToole didn’t do great. Lewis basically can’t communicate in French. Sloan doesn’t have a hope in hell in a center left country like Canada. Lewis is by far the best educated and accomplished candidate. I fear Quebec won’t vote for her and it doesn’t matter if i like her or not if she can’t beat true Dough. I am a member of the party and get a vote. Haven’t decided yet. Definitely not Sloan.
I found all the candidates rather uninspiring, Mackay and Otoole just argued with each other, Sloan is too aggressive in my opinion, to win over the centre voters. I was also disappointed with Lewis' public speaking, I noticed Sloan sort of helping her along at some points, I think if she could gain some experience in public debate she would be a more viable candidate. I turned it off about halfway through.
I'm not convinced any of them have the right personality to gain traction with younger voters. I think in this day and age they need a puppet with some personality to win more votes.
I think you are 100% right. Younger people pay little attention to policy. To win them over you need to accumulate followers on Twitter. This is done with catchy 50 word posts and good looks.
Well at least a few people took the time watch. I didn’t see anything that makes me think they have chance at winning, and Sheer’s lingering presence isn’t helping the party either. Definitely didn’t see a leader on stage. MacKay will probably win the leadership only to lose at the election. Just my 2 cents.
He will only lose the election because the right will split the vote again.
If that stupid Peoples party did not exist Justin would not have won, there would not have been a gun ban.
The CPC had more votes than the Liberals, with the split. Smarten up and vote based on taking this idiot out.
Personally I find we Canadians unelect a government. I haven’t seen a solid platform in a long time. We tire of the missteps of the ruling party, toss them out and let the next band of merry thieves give it a try only to be disappointed yet again. Toss them out and start again. I was hopeful during the early stages of the virus to see compromises and all parties working together. Alas that lasted all of about 30 seconds. The Order in Council on the firearms ban ridiculous. It isn’t how democracy works.
Canadians need to remember that Canada isn't technically a "democracy". We have a constitutional monarchy. There's a vast difference between the two. All authority rests with The Privy Council and ultimately, the Crown. On the surface,we have Parliamentary governance, but,as we've just seen, that can be very easily circumvented by an Order in Council without recourse. In order to have a true democracy,Canada needs to be a Republic.
I think I’d take a pass on being a republic. The clown car circus show they have down south isn’t something I’d want to be part of.
Yup probably whats going to happen. No clear leaders in that debate. O toole made himself look bad with the constant bashing, if he stopped trying to bury Mckay alive and got rid of the goofy grins he would appear alot more professional. Mckay seemed the most confident talker but he doesn't seem like he has great leadership qualities, seems more follower then a leader. If Sloan gets some experience and refined his approach he could have a chance in the future. Not that my opinion matters but I think there's too many people in Canada who aren't willing to accept Lewis, and that's a shame because I think she would have the best chance against Trudeau. How better to steal the minority vote away from the Libs. She probably would get alot more women voting for her that would normally vote for boy wonder and his wavy locks as well. Trudeau makes me sick to my stomach, hes gotta go no matter what.
Having met the 4 of them, MacKay, and O’Tool seem like more of the same. Sloan is way over he’s head and hasn’t a chance other than with the far right. Lewis is further right than both MacKay and and O’Tool, but might actually be the better choice. She is at least a fresh candidate. It would show progress by the party to embrace someone young and might actually get them a footing with younger voters.
Once again though I find very little information on actual policy. It all seems very broad talk with no real definitive direction. I guess we will have to see but I suspect it will be MacKay, and the same old tired battle cry that will turn people off and 4 more years of the left smoke and mirrors show.
He also has the most experience in the political game. Yes it is a game and you need to master it to get elected. Doesn’t matter how smart or suited to the position if you can’t play the game well enough to win. We need to select a winner. Part of me thinks a woman of colour with the amazing resume Lewis has “should” win over many female and none white voters. Still think she will get crucified on the abortion question.
I find these conservative "leaders" do a better job trying to sell themselves to conservatives who are going to vote for them if they like them or not. They need new tactics to show outsiders that they aren't just a bunch of rich old people, they need to find something that can relate them to the younger public. Most people don't care enough to research candidates and find a reason to like them.
Whoever wins can expect a brutal and filthy general election. The liberals campaign better than any other party. Got another invitation by the Lewis campaign to join a zoom call tomorrow night. I gotta give it to her she’s working it well.
i would like to see her win, I’m afraid she’s too much of a social conservative for this country that is basically 2/3 Center Left.

This pretty much says it all.
Now some members of the con. party, are spying, (cheating), on it's own want to be leaders. Will it affect the outcome?
I don't want to vote liberal but don't really care for any of the PC Candidates either, NDP isn't even a conversation starter for me so........ might just have to decline my ballot come election time.......Sad, if these are the best people we have to run our Country......
We need to elect someone that will pull Canada back in the center of the social spectrum and connect with urban Canadians. Like it or not that person will need to (1) take votes from Liberals in Toronto & (2) take votes from the Block in Quebec, all while NOT isolating Western Canada and rural communities. It is not going to be ab easy task.
I always vote along party lines because regardless of the charisma of the local representation you vote for when the mother ship says jump they will jump. Just remind yourself to look what happened when they voted for charisma - you got Mr. Fancy Socks.
Step 1 is the need to choose a leader who can beat True Dough. Nothing else matters. Wether that leader ticks off all the boxes is second to “can they win”. If they can’t win no point in choosing them. We got more actual votes than True Dough, but we need to get new ridings. That means pandering to the large urban centres who lean left. The maritimes will never dump the liberals, so we need Quebec and Ontario ridings.
You see what he did the next day? They could EASILY use that to demonstrate his real action to deal with the BLM issue. He sacrificed his position to support the cause. I don't think we can name one Liberal that has made a real sacrifice like that.
I'm almost wondering whether he hasn't resigned as a step towards the Conservative Leadership race.
Why can't the Federal Conservatives get someone that is good, right now they all suck..... I have no confidence in any of them and can't get my passion behind them at all....
Who gets to pick these candidates? If the PC's want to win, they should really rethink the way they choose them..... Maybe if everyone got pissed about our choices, they might do a better job finding a good Canadian candidate........
I didn't actually see that, thanks for mentioning it. I'm happy to see somebody in the mainstream who can still stand on principle. I met his sister during her campaign and she personally installed my lawn sign with a photo op.
Maybe we will see something from him in the future. Although the cynic in me assumes he saw his expiry date coming with that position anyway so he took the opportunity.
You'd think after Scheer lost to our clown prime minister ... you'd think that was a shocking enough result.
Perhaps the party is too divided ... they are letting the small things get in the way of the bigger issues, and arguing over
immaterial issues ... while they sit and lose the vote. At some stage, people must put their pride aside and also ALL there
millions of great ideas and focus on the main cause, and move that forward as one unit. It means some people need to step
aside, some people need to drop some petty issue and deal with it later ... for the sake of the party, and more for the sake of this
nation.

Too many wants too much differences and too many voices.
How do you serve everyones needs when the world is still arguing over slavery, yet not one person on this planet has been apart of it.
Need someone like trump just not trump lol. Someone that is not afraid to speak their mind .

Yes but he already has many hatters some are starting to like him. When in question period a while back a lady called him prime minister he said not yet and laughed. I would vote for him. Maybe after he is done where he is later on down the rd..

On Premier Ford. Lets wait and see what his policies do to Ontario, before we let him run the country. I do think he has done an admirable job during this heath crisis. I also think
PM Trudeau has as well.
Ford would be good... he has done 100X better than the Federal gov't with it's lies and coverups on COVID etc... right now I would vote for any of the 4 officials or Ford. Bottom of the List would be McKay... he just doesn't seem much different than Justlied and his bunch and we need different. Several of them are calling for scrapping many of the Liberal sh** piles like the OIC and reducing or defunding CBC... that should set the LIEbral supporters into a fit!
Well, who’s happy and who’s not and why ?
He was my first choice. See if he remembers his promises.
Will he want a fall election
Will he push Trudeau out.
I,for one,am thrilled with the results. I'm NOT impressed with mail-in voting for obvious reasons. Erin has the drive and determination to nail the Liberals to the wall every step of the way. Andrew Scheer is one hell of a great guy, but, when it came down to "hammer time", he didn't quite deliver the punches needed to back down JT and the Jokers. That's all about to change.
Personally I'd elect a stuffed toy over Trudope.
X2 - in the 2nd ballot she actually had more votes than Otoole or MacKay.... but thanks to the "points" system she was disqualified .... ????? .... atleast MacKay didn't win.

I was sorta hoping for Lewis even though she has little political experience (neither does Trudope) but she has brains, is female and is colored. I don't know much about O'T so its wait and see.
I’m not a party member but I am also happy with the result. Seems to be an authentic Conservative and I like the fact he is a veteran.
Awesome result.
It’s early but am I seeing the media shinning up to OToole
I can see some idea of why, but still looks too convoluted to me....

Her political career has just begun and last nights results are a huge feather in her cap, Mckay is going to run for the hills now and Lewis has the path set out for her to do great things in the future.
Im happy with O toole getting elected. I was pushing for him all along. He seems to be alot more of an ordinary Canadian boy than Mckay who gives me the heebee geebees. Now we need to take down captain silly socks and O toole will give us our guns back and protect gun owners.
Yea you're right that would be a good combo. He seems pretty close with her so maybe itll happen. He says hes not full on social conservative except with the same sex marriage thing which I don't understand the reasoning behind social conservatism in this day and age, its somewhat of a handicap for a politician. What hes got going for him is that hes a Toronto MP so hopefully he can claw back some of the liberal presence there. Born in Quebec so maybe hell pull in some of the bloc or liberals. Hes going to win the west no matter what happens thats a given.
Sheer was born and raised in Ottawa. Dropped into Saskatchewan riding to run against NDP. He’s wife is from that area. Kelly Leitch, from Manitoba, dropped in to Simcoe Grey. Freeland was living in NY when she ran for the Toronto riding she holds. It isn’t only a “Liberal tactic”.
As for the winner, at least it’s clear that the Conservative party picked a Conservative. I look forward to hearing more of what they stand for. All I’ve heard for the last few months is what they stand against.
I thought Sheers last speech was terrible. Blaming others cause he couldn’t close the deal in the last election.
Like a lot of others, O'Toole was my first vote and Lewis my second. Very happy. I've met Erin a few times and I think he is true to the way he talks.
Yeah in our riding you used to hear about the protest of the local Liberal's candidate being replaced by some young woman of India decent that was dropped in from Mississauga (where the one before the current one lived) etc. local Liberal's were silenced or just gave up trying to have a say and went sheep it seems. They even got someone with the same first name, the Ruby in there now replacing the Ruby that was there before since Ruby1 was known for her entitlements and beating her maid. It was kind of pathetic, Ruby 1 setup a press conference, all kinds off elections signs and at the last minute ended up putting tape over the "elect" part and dropping out ... leaving it to the Ruby 2 uncontested.

Otoole is what Canada needs. He's holding his first news conference and is doing an excellent job
Why wouldn't O'Toole pick Caroline Mulroney for his 2IC?
Any belong to CSSA. I like OToole firearm msg
