Is anyone else getting really sick of the teachers unions radio ad -THREAD?

First of all -NO offence to the OP.
Great topic,great debate. Thank You for starting it.

Secondly-i by no means challenge anyone's freedom of speech. We -You-Us,can say whatever, and whenever. Post on this very forum too.
As long as it is with respect-reason-common sense -good taste-certain level of common interest-so on..............

Thirdly-i am no better or different than any of us here ,and i do know it is on OFF TOPIC,and i clearly know THIS very THREAD i am starting has no bearing on anyone..................

BUT

Boy oh boy-i am wondering ,when this useless debate will ever end? Perhaps on Thursday the Deer hunting starts-perhaps we as hunters shall/will focus on that......perhaps the moderators will fed up one day ,with all this back and forth.

On the plus side, it's at 80 pages and hasn't been shutdown yet. That is a big deal for one of those types of threads - it shows that members are able to debate without degenerating into childish name calling.
You don't have to read the thread - I don't.

I kinda like the thread, some good info can be found when you filter out the personal shots. I do see both sides of the debate, because there are at least 2 different camps of thought. It does go to show just how different the thought patterns are for folks that have 1 main topic that draws them together in the end, the great outdoors.

Unfortunately, due to a continued amount of disrespect on the Teachers' Radio Ad thread, the thread has been closed down. I had hoped I wouldn't have to remind a hearty community of adults that name-calling and disrespecting people's career/professions is a violation of the Forum's decorum. Moreover, I'd also like to note you cannot possibly compare the stress of hospital work with the stress of working in education. We're all doing our best in these times, and a little kindness goes a long way. Any further commentary on this thread will be policed (a.k.a removed, as that's where we are, now).

I distinctly remember most of the comments were 'generalizations' and the majority poked disdain at a group (Unions/Teachers) not directed at an individual. A few people with hurts feeling because they happen to be a member or part of the groups being criticized and took offense is NOT grounds to close and remove a thread.

Good men have died on a battlefield so we have the freedom to speak and express our opinions...just because some people took offense what was being said, doesn't
mean rules were broken.

It was very clear that people are fed up/sick with the teachers union ads, which was the op question/thread!

Red Conservatives? Not a chance. Your last paragraph nailed it. Nice recovery,LOL. I'm kind of disappointed the thread was closed. This is just an observation,but,wouldn't it have made more sense to sanction the trolls instead of penalizing everyone?

Edit: afterthought. Isn't closing threads because of the actions of a distinct minority the exact same thing we're fighting against with gun control blaming the many for the actions of the few instead of dealing justly with the few?

So rather than centering out the violators and setting an example for everyone to see, we're continuing on banning the threads? The same individuals just move onto another thread.
No offence to the moderators, but this approach is exactly what we're seeing all over and around our communities. I can't tell how many fishing spots I've seen lost in the last several years because of laziness or simple incompetence. The inability to center out the individuals because of fear of backlash or cant get enough resources to deal with the issue is a joke and a slap in the face. They put in resources to carry out the ban after neglecting to put in the resources to address the initial issue.
Sorry if that come across as offensive, but to read the trolls crap here on a regular basis is maddening and in all likelihood its them that do most of the complaining.

To many people who think everyone has to be political correct. Heck no what would the world be like if we were all the same [emoji28]. Pretty boring I would think

We need the different mind sets to make the world great . It wouldn't work if we all thought the same and had to be perfect. Nope just wouldn't work.

No need to be mad because some just do what they want to do ,say what they want to say. We each live our own lives and do what we want nobody can change this ,it's just way of life .

If there was no crime there would be no cops and so on . If we all thought the same many inventions would never have been created . We can't all be political correct I for one am most definitely not yet I was still called a gentleman the other day.

It's pretty obvious to most members here that the majority of altercations here in many threads is due to one particular troll who relishes stirring the pot as much as he can. Soon as he sees a thread he can troll he's in there like a dirty shirt just drooling every time he gets other members going. He adds nothing concrete to this forum at all except to raise shyte. I'll give him credit though, he is good at poking the bear without crossing the line. I have him blocked and I have strongly urged others to do the same rather than get caught up in his bs and respond to all the inane comments he posts. Plus those happen to be the only type of posts he comments on for the most part, his actual contributions to the hunting and fishing community are nil. There was a similar one in another forum I'm in and once he got suspended all the crap disappeared. Saying careful to him as a warning will accomplish little.
I also strongly agree with others here, instead of just closing a thread down you would be far better off dealing with the individual comments that cross the line.

I agree with most of your post,but,freedom and liberty should never be sacrificed for any reason,especially,under the guise of "a good cause". Doing so puts us on the slippery slope that Canada seems to be on,now.

Open debates have become a thing of the past, back in my day Universites used to encourage free thinking and to challenge one's belief systems thru debate. What I see happening now it that they stifle open debate and your freedom to express contradictory opinions. Look at how many Universities now ban controversial speakers from campus.

Instead of open discussion and debate, we are now taught and rules invoked so that you don't offend anyone with your opinions, after all, they have the right not to be made uncomfortable with challenges against their ideologies. This has coined the phrase "snowflakes".

If you start an anti conservative thread in a largely conservative chat room you will be called a troll by individual members (collectively) because that is their opinion BUT you will not be banned or given warnings by the administrator for expressing your opinions - that only happens in a Liberal environment. On this forum your free speech 'should' not be stifled - just because someone is not in agreement with you does not mean you do not have a voice and opinion.

No different than if I went to a largely Liberal forum and started bashing Justin, and public sector unions. I would expect the same treatment from the forum members - plus they have this funny way of labeling everyone that does not agree with them as either a facist or a racist then throw mud at you. This is a protection mechanism that allows them to feel like they are one big happy cohesive group of collective consciousness.

I am sorry Meghan but I fail to see how you helping me with my photo uploading issues have ANYTHING to do with my political views or calling out something that I see as the truth. I did not know your job at OOD was web administrator extraordinaire (and you do an amazing job BTW) AND protector of member feelings. I will keep that in mind next time thanks.

Well put....a lot of speakers on the circuit, like Charlie Kirk , Ben Shapiro and Dinesh D'Souza that lean 'right' in their views and opinions are not welcome on University campuses, often banned from speaking there or are accosted by the radical left movement when they do speak and have to hire security guards due to safety issues. .....and I think the word you were looking for is bifurcated......there is more than two bifurcated ideologies. I fail to grasp how one would reference binary to a political ideology when by definition it is something made of two things or parts specifically. A political ideology is made up of many different factors, opinions and ideas and in some cases dogmatic beliefs.

I do not remember a time, or at least I have never been upset with private sector unions. If the union can squeeze GM for better wages and/or better benefits then go for it, but there is a point where GM reaches that line in the sand and says enough is enough packs up and moves those jobs to Mexico. IMHO the union failed it's workers - it failed to see the delicate balance of profitability, a healthy, happy & productive work force, and ROI.

Public sector unions (Teachers Union) do not have this fear - they can push all they want because there are no repercussions other than a lengthy strike.

Seen enough companies close or move because of unions.

Lots of my family lives in Oshawa and worked making cars, they all slowly trickled out because they saw what the union was doing. When you have a janitor making $42/hr with 8 weeks of holidays due to seniority it is really difficult to continue to run a business.

I'd say that automotive industry example is outright catastrophic failure. And I'm sure there were warnings from GM too. They'll incur huge losses making a move like that ... so they wouldn't have taken the decision lightly. Points to just how mindless the unions can be ... I can't help but think of a parasite, that feeds on its host, until the host is dead ... then the parasite dies too.

I guess one of the reasons I'm more positive about unions is because of the help they gave me when I had a huge problem with my boss.
They represented me in mediation with a Board of Education, and the Human Rights Commission. We were successful on all fronts. I learned that they were definitely about more than money.

Have to agree Sharon, the UNIFOR union took really good care of my Aunt after my Uncle died. I was young then (mid 70s) and it showed me the value of belonging to a Union family. I don't know how it is these days, but I don't see the same care for the membership that used to exist.

Oh I don't know about that GM moves the plant to Mexico and gets to pay the workers there $2.50 an hour and they have no benefits.
But somehow with these savings on labour and health they can then still justify selling a pickup truck for $60,000. Real wages for the average middle class worker have apparently not gone up since 1976.

My wife got a BAD deal from one employer ... basically a manager that was jealous of her made up some BS reason to have her fired without any evidence (basically said she believe she was looking for other employment ... which was a lie, and in any case is not a dismissible offence). It was all about money, my wife was good at selling packages and was making commission, but the manager wanted full monopoly on the commission on ALL packages sold ... which is against the agreement in the contract ...

So, ask yourself, why didn't they move (or even initially establish) the company before?
Because there was value being here ... but at some point, that value erodes ... to the point where it's not worth it anymore.

When you are laid off of a Job always see a Lawyer even if you have only been there for a year. I was laid off after 4.5 years and was only offered 4 months after speaking to a Lawyer he go it to 8 months after paying him I was still 6000 ahead. Employment Lawyers will probono If you don't get anything extra they don't get paid. You are only charged on the extra they get you. My Lawyer was paid 2000 so he took 25%. Yes quite a bit but if I had lost he would get nothing. Now I could have paid by the hour but in my case both worked out the same.

I won't or can't speak for the others but as a former mod on this site I personally allowed it to go on because I didn't, don't and never will embrace censorship even though many of the comments in those older threads ran against the rules of the site. Being a conservative and not a liberal lover never entered into my decisions but I wasn't that naive to see that a few liberals just came on to stir the pot.

There is where the rub is my friend, the Conservatives on here emboldened by numbers call it stirring the pot when a Liberal voter speaks out, but when they speak out they are voicing their opinion.I will say for you that you were one of the better moderators on here but many of the older threads should have been censored before they got shut down,the harm to the spirit of the membership was already done.

Well if your a payment short for your home or truck loan money is indeed everything.As a recent senior they are sending me $33.00 a month not to sure what I will do with this vast sum of money.

You guys need to start looking on the positive side of thing's. We have a great country here a single diamond from northern Ontario sold a few weeks ago for 15 million dollars, anyone who has owned a home in the past decade has seen an annual pop in price of about 8%.

So just putting that into perspective the national debt is $38,000 per person but homeowners are making about $80,000 pa for sitting in their homes,is that also free money for nothing.

Lots of work and money out there, but we think as a society we are to good for these jobs . If your are short your payment you need to step up and get it done and make that payment. Lots of work to be done but unfortunately many are to good for that kind of work.

As for some of the people still making good money from home ? Not sure what to think about it . Know a guy getting 60 bucks an hour to sit in bed doesn't even have pants [emoji158] on half the and making a killing. Some are better off then others we are not all equal the rich is only getting richer while the majority of the middle is at a stand still.

As a whole the majority can't even compete with a part of the real money out there. .

If you didn't donate for tax breaks where would the money go ? What would happen to all the organization's where these donations are made too? Is our government going to pay for new churches and hospitals? I know my wife's grandparents have donated millions to churches and hospitals. Who will look after this if they do not ? Remember alot of their money is funded by the people not our government.

Preach it,brother! Damn,this thread needs a "like" button. The old "make the rich pay" mantra has socialism/marxism written all over it. It was unmitigated bullshyte then and it still is. People have worked hard all their lives and made themselves very successful. There's no reason they should be required to "share" that wealth,but,ironically,they all do to some extent in one form or another. That's not good enough,though,for the socialist set who try to convince the great unwashed that there's something inherently wrong with that,proposing taxation systems that "redistribute" that wealth. Many of the rich plow their money back into new Business Ventures which in turn creates new jobs. Those on the Left either forget this or plain and simple do not want new jobs created. They just want the money taken from the rich and given to them as they truly believe they should not have to work at all.

Then there are also many on the Left who think that even some middle income people have to much. I have had the odd person call me wealthy because of all the crap I have around here. What they fail to understand or grasp is that I worked even harder to collect all this crap.

In my early days' I moved to Ottawa with a back pack, typewriter and a beer making kit, that was back in 1993. I had no financial help from my parents for School or moving. I arrived here with 1000 bucks which was my income tax return and a few dollars I had saved. I worked for a lawn care company as a Tree specialist (I studied as a Forester at SSFC in Lindsay).

I still remember seeing people on welfare leaving the beer store with cases of beer and yet I had a job and had to save for a week to afford a six pack. I was married in 1996 and my wife and I were technically right around the poverty line yet we managed to scrimp and save and buy our first home a fixer upper.

I would work back then from 6 in the morning until 9 at night my regular job and jobs on the side landscaping. In 1999 I went back to school to study programming as I was tired of going on EI each fall. I graduated in Summer of 2000. During the first years of my Marriage I knew little of how to do my own stuff. I had to learn how to do construction so I could do my own renovations, I had to learn to fix my own cars as we had caught mechanics several times ripping us off.

My first few years camping back then was with a car and my brother Inlaw had an old boat and I had a canoe from when I was a kid. Over the years I did as much as I could on my own to either save money or by use equipment and repair it. I did inherit a small 12 ft tin with a 7,5 Ted Williams motor. Two years ago we bought a 1976 7.5 Merc bad deal we had to do a lot of repairs on the motor. My cars most are used I have bought 1 new. Currently I own 3 car's (one is off the road until we need it) I+ my truck. I did the roof on my barn and house my self and will do the garage next year. I also installed my patio door. These days I have more money and I am tired so I have hired someone to install windows and a new Heat Pump.

What I hear most about today's kid's and some older is they do not believe they should have to work their way up, they want it now and every Liberal supporter believes the same thing. I worked very very hard to get where I am and numerous times I was kicked back down but I move forward. Today I am working a contract making more then 120K a year , by December I might have to go cut firewood to make money and that will pay me 16 bucks an hour. I work hard for my money and no Lefty should be asking me to pay more, if anything we should be asking where can we cut.

When people to day are asking for free childcare what they really want is you to subsidize their trip down south. More young people have traveled then the older generation. I paid for all my childcare no government help. No help when I fought custody for my daughter. People need to learn to stand up and work instead of relying on others. The Left promotes this and even the Lefties on here promote it. They should be ashamed. The average person can no longer even figure out how to go to the bathroom without someone telling them how to.

The Left is a gimmee gimmee gimmee group.

Welfare was suppose to be a helping hand for those who fell through the cracks yet now we have generational welfare families. This is what the left wants.

To qualify for disability you need to have a "severe and prolonged condition" if you apply Federally almost everyone with only a GP, letter gets knocked back.A specialist letter is needed to qualify,its not as easy as you are making out.

Unequal pay for women in the workforce has been going on for a very long time.It's not so bad today as it was in the past thank God for unions and the fact lots of women work directly for governments .But I don't think you can argue that women got a fair shake in the past.

As for his income tax, in the US you can roll over you losses indefinitely so when he had those losses in the 1980's he was able to use them for 20 years. My understanding is he will soon have to start paying real tax.

I suspect you will find that Morneau probably pays very little tax. He most likely pay's himself dividends which are around tax at 15%.

Well. this has been a very interesting read. A lot of it is certainly not fitting with my experiences. My husband and I have worked with those on welfare (Ontario Works) or Disability for many years. Or sure there are some that are takers, but MOST just struggle to survive.
In Ontario you get $800. a month on welfare. The cheapest one bedroom in London is $1200. Hmmm... What do you do? You hit the streets or as one couple we are working with ( in their twenties) or you try to find a bachelor apt. (one room + a bathroom)..... oh and yes you'll need a co - signer. That costs $800. so with 2 people each has $400. left over. This has to go towards food , bus tickets and hydro. Yes, you might have a little left over for a 6 pak. but no cell phone or cable.
Another boy , fell 40 + feet from a bridge. Of course he applied for disability; still after many years, no luck. They tell him to get a computer job where he can sit.
Many kids from dysfunctional families also never finished high school. Try to get a job with not even a high school diploma.

I've only given 3 examples, but there are thousands of people in those boats.

I come from a dysfunctional family ; finishing high school was hard , but once I got out of the home I worked all day and went to UWO at night. I had the brains to be able to do that, but many don't. They struggle to survive every day.

As for his income tax, in the US you can roll over you losses indefinitely so when he had those losses in the 1980's he was able to use them for 20 years. My understanding is he will soon have to start paying real tax.

Well it's takes money to make money try making 20 bucks from a 5 it will take all day. Way easier to make more with more . Some sit on their money others try and make more . Gotta spend it to make it well not true for all because of interest. But those are the sitter's then there are workers and go getters lol. These people you speak of on average work up to 18 hrs a day with little to no sleep.

I am a go getter and need little sleep to no sleep I have worked 30 hr shifts to 100 hr work weeks . Slowly I am climbing higher but I came from the very bottom and life is good so that's all that matters. If I had more I could make more but I don't but it's not the end of the world. Some of my sleeps are only considered naps to some lol. But again life is good [emoji12]

Life is what you make of it not how much money you have or make . People who are in total different tax brackets but the lesser of 2 could have more money just from their lifestyle choices.

Bankruptcy is part of the game for some ,they had an idea it didn't work they try again and succeeded .Maybe you should be mad at the banks for only alloying to put in some of the money to invest in. But then again risk and reward is a thing.

So if the rich couldn't donate and needed to give more of it to the government for what? so they all get more raises more money in their pockets ? Line their friends with more ?

Yes I think you are more accurate. Too many free loaders and it's definitely not has hard as he thinks it is. I know many of them probably never worked a full work week in there life lol
