I see in the news they are having a problem with the new CERB system, I actually had a call 2 weeks ago asking if I was interested in a contract to maintain the databases for that.
But I turned it down.
Update for Ottawa:
On Sept 30th there were 30 people in the hospital including 4 in the ICU
On Oct 8th there are 33 in hospital including 8 in the ICU.
On Oct 16th there were 47 in Hospital with 8 in the ICU.
So in 3 weeks during the "2nd Wave", Ottawa with a population of 1.2 million people saw a total increase of 17 patients to the Hospital. While patients in the ICU have been stable at 8 for the past 2 weeks..no new admissions.
Granted some would argue that's a 50% increase...but in context..going from 33 to 47 shouldn't be used to instill fear that the virus is going to overload our health care institutions.
Results: Ottawa has been classed as a 'Red Zone' and phase 2 restrictions implemented...bars, restaurants etc are now closed again. For 17 people requiring hospital care.
A lot more fiction than fact.
This has gone from ridiculous and headed towards the absurd. The list of restaurants that are closing permanently, a loss of peoples lively hood and the loss of employment to those that worked there is growing every day. The restaurant association is now calling the province to support the closure with data..proof that they are the key source of the transmission of the virus.
The data from Health Ontario sure doesn't support it .
edit add: Report from Leeds Grenville: "This reflects no change over Oct. 15's report. 350 cases are considered recovered, meaning there are 10 active cases – all considered community cases, meaning not a health care worker or at a long-term care home."
So in two weeks it went from 7 to 10 active cases in the whole Township. At least there is some common sense out here and no closures due to the 2nd waves increase of 3 people :)
Well,I see they've shut the bars,gyms and theaters down,again,told everybody not to celebrate Thanksgiving,but,it's OK to keep the kids in school. When you crunch what numbers are being released,subtract the "resolved" cases from the total active cases,then,compare those numbers against the total of entire population,the number of actual cases becomes quite miniscule with fatalities smaller still. This ridiculous hysteria has to stop. Things are getting absolutely NUTS!!

So we almost hit the 1 thousand mark today.
Cases are still on the rise with restaurants and gyms closed.
My question is? Are they going to open the restaurant industry ,open indoor dinning in 3 weeks time. Or will they continue to keep them closed. It's only supposed to be a 4 week close but with the cases still on the rise will they allow them to open ?
Probably not just like the first 30 day shut down was 3 months.
If this is the second wave how many more to follow? Remember our governments wanted multiple slow waves how many will that be ?

It actually seems both could be true, considering doctors are now reporting seeing a lot more later stage cancers and other illnesses than normal due to lack of diagnosis during the lockdown, and a bunch of those patients are ending up in ICU when they could have been treated as outpatients or in regular beds if diagnosed earlier.... so it’s entirely possible, even likely, that increases in ICU patients now are as much a result of the lockdown as they are of COVID

Covid fatigue is setting in
Pandemic fatigue what ever you want to call it lol.
People are just starting to see what's coming and now we are going into a second setting.
Some people working from home are not coping well. Even with good jobs working from home , staying at home , staying more at home . Many are almost at breaking points and thinking of changing careers.
It's not so easy for some to just be at home all day . It's not healthy in the long run.

The ramifications of this continuous lock down is going to affect a lot more people adversely (mentally/physically) than the virus would have. If they threaten to continue with it into the Christmas season it's going to get ugly.
Yup. How many still agree with the path that our provincial Conservative government has chosen? The provinces have been given significant autonomy by the federal government , to decide whether lock downs are in the best interest of their citizens. Evidence of such has been shown ,by how various provinces have mandated certain rules. Are we doing the right thing?

Nothing much hasn't change for me. I go to town as little as I can, the rest of the time I am at home or out around here. Maybe hunting, fishing, camping or doing chores. The day I retired I took off my watch and have not warn it since. I retired 8 years ago and I settled into a routine, I do at least one thing a day, every day, for the family or home, ( chores, shopping, etc.), and one thing for myself, (hockey , golf , curling, fishing, hunting). Gotta keep active after being in a busy high energy field, for most of my working life. Gives me a purpose, everyone needs a purpose.
I have to say, that is the best comment you have wrote so far, on this form. It has changed my view of you, in the sense I had visions of you working behind a desk pushing your left leaning ideas. My (our), of retirement is exactly the same idea.

This second wave thing our hospitals are full many running at full capacity the last month. And only a few people with covid. We are seeing almost the same old packed hospitals as pre covid.
They say our hospitals ran way over capacity last winter. They will be in for a big surprise soon.

Ottawa residents need to “get back to living” and learn to coexist with COVID-19, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said Monday.
Speaking to the city’s Board of Health, Etches said Ottawa Public Health is taking a new approach to the pandemic that recognizes the virus is not going away any time soon and that people have to learn to live with it.

“COVID is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. We are in the early days of learning to live with it.”
She said she hopes a “balanced” approach will allow businesses to remain open, as long as members of the public do their part to limit the spread of the virus. She said restrictions are taking a financial toll as well as a toll on the mental well-being of residents.
Etches said she is encouraged that cases and outbreaks are stabilizing in the city as a result of actions taken by residents. And she said the daily case counts do not reflect the current state of transmission, but often the situation two weeks earlier when the transmission took place.

“I want the people of Ottawa to know that we can do this. We can learn to live with COVID, to coexist with COVID with care. The health of our population depends on it.”
That message, that COVID-19 is going to be around for a while, was echoed in the draft budget tabled at the Monday board meeting.
Ottawa Public Health expects to spend an additional $23.7 million in 2021 — similar to the additional amount spent this year — to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. That includes the additional cost of testing, tracing, school support, infection prevention and control in long-term care homes, communication and more specifically related to the pandemic.
The budget, she said, “assumes that we will be responding to the pandemic for the duration of 2021.”
Ottawa Public Health, which is funded by both the province and the city in a 70-30 split, will ask the province to pay the full costs related to the pandemic for both 2020 and 2021.
The draft budget does not include the costs of administering COVID-19 vaccines.
“Such budget impacts are currently unknown,” Etches said in the budget document. “A full costing and description of required activities to administer a new vaccine will be provided to the Board of Health once the provincial immunization plans are made known.”
Etches said the assumption is that the city will continue to see outbreaks and live with the threat of COVID-19 throughout 2021.
“COVID will continue to be in our community for the year and we will continue to have to work to keep the level managed.“
Etches showed members of the health board a new communications campaign that encourages Ottawa residents to think of the reasons they have to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The campaign, developed by Ottawa Public Health in collaboration with local hospitals, is called One Million Reasons.
“We all have our reasons to stop the spread. We are one million strong. The actions of individuals do make a difference.”
Etches described the message as a “harm reduction” approach to COVID-19 that would include the importance of individuals doing their parts to reduce transmission with businesses open.
And she said businesses are working hard to be able to be open safely. Keeping bars and restaurants closed encourages people to socialize in groups in private where such transmission precautions do not exist, she said.
The health board meeting comes just days before the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions are set to end. Premier Doug Ford asked Ottawa for input into how to reopen businesses safely. On Monday, the premier congratulated Ottawa for stabilizing infection rates.
Etches said Ottawa residents will be encouraged to take part in outdoor activities this winter as a means of improving physical and mental health during what could otherwise be a difficult winter.
“Our hope is that encouraging people to partake in outdoor activities will help combat COVID fatigue.
“I think the tone has been a bit more what you can’t do, it doesn’t convey that we are living, it conveys that we are not living,” she said.
“I think we need to get back to living. That is for the health of the population too.”

My grandfather waited to see the family before it was his time. He waited for our reunion to say goodbye . He didn't eat for 19 days he was bed ridden but he was counting the days until we all came. He would ask how long till we all come . He pasted that night but we all got to say goodbye .
Now you are on your own you would think they would loosen some restrictions when a family members days are numbered. But nope they are on their own. Sad

Some quick numbers show the deaths by population is barley double of our rates.
Total deaths by population 0.07 % USA at 350 million
Canada 0.03 % at 35 million
What's the difference between them ?
Yes big difference but many refused to shut down in the USA.
We are on tight restrictions here in Canada. Also more shutdowns will be issued and plenty more businesses will be closed permanently.
How many that took big loans can afford to pay it back? Yes they were simply handed out to shut them back down [emoji849].
Many in the USA would like to see the economy boom instead of the dealing with covid. The people would rather be working than to shut down. Keep the economy open has more of vote then the shut downs.
In the end I truly believe they will be in far better shape when a vaccine is available .
What happens when a vaccine is present in Canada ? With no heard immunity a vaccine is pretty useless . If 20 % of Canada gets a vaccine 80 percent of the population will be sitting ducks

Justin Trudeau just said they see the light at the end of the tunnel. We just have to wait a few more months till spring. Then there will be a vaccine available that they say is 90 % effective.
How can they be so sure of this vaccine with such a high success ? Yet our annual flu is like 60 to 70 percent effective and how many years have they worked on the annual strain?
I've heard of covid 19 mutating 3 times already . It has been around awhile already pretty much a year and the first early cases were in mid November. The most recent is the mink farms spread to 5 country's and that it has changed and could be bad for a vaccine.
So how can they be so sure to promise next summer will be ok [emoji6].

Considering Canada is last on the list with this company for there drug it is unlikely we will receive it in the Spring and if we do it will be very limited supply.
The company will only have a few million before Christmas and then hopes to gear up next Spring. A realistic time frame would be late 2021 for a small part of the population and most people it will most likely be 2022. Trudeau really has no idea about anything.

Canada was last to sign a deal with every company. He was hoping for the Chinese vaccination which we helped pay for and the Chinese decided they did not want to give us the formula. Which is why he signed contracts with these companies. Canada is last on each list. I think we signed with 4 companies.

What's been done about this problem?
Hospital s are filling up with 350 covid patients in Ontario. We have a huge issue and if 400 covid patients can collapse the Heath care systems we have issues.

The charts for the US and Canada show a growing trend into the Nov and with the talk of various strains of the Wuhan Pneumonia (from 3 to 6 depending on source) it would take a detailed study to determine which has the higher mortality rate and it's distribution. Flattening the curve just makes the curve longer and any kind of a vaccine (especially for Canada) is far away and may produce limited results and have a limited effectiveness duration.

Toronto was put into stage red yesterday so the restaurants and gyms will remain closed until mid December they say.
But we all know closing the restaurant's and gyms didn't work. The lack of testing this month is getting old . The past few weeks many days are well under 30 thousand test done. . Yesterday they tested 36 thousand but still well under the target goals that were set out months ago.
I think the appointment only is getting less test done.

I have no problem with others beliefs,(that's their problem), as long as their belief does affect the lives of non believers, in any way. If it does, they have crossed a line they shouldn't have.

Thats awesome Gilroy. Your certainly not alone, there has been many like yourself seeing very strange things going on in the woods on camera. Seeing a picture or video like yours is mind boggling. Certainly leaves unanswered questions.

In the USA it cost 50 billion minimum a day in a shut down. Those are just the beginning numbers. He realizes that lost jobs , suicide ,drugs and alcohol abuse , businesses going bankruptcy and many other things like depression and human health associated with lockdowns can do.
They have beds they have ventilators yeah they might be short ppe but they got there chit together.

Where are you going to put all these beds? The halls in our brand spankin new hospital complex are already full. Can't put new beds in portables because there's no place to put the portables. The new parking lot is already too small for cars and people are being bussed from the old hospital site. And life goes on with everyday heart attack patients, strokes, home and vehicle mishaps , diabetes patients, you name it. And lets not forget the dopers who now take up doctors time more than they ever did.
So, its not an easy fix. We can criticize governments and the health care system all day long but I've yet to hear anyone come up with a realistic and practical solution.

Even Ottawa as a "red Zone' has not set up any overflow capacity to handle a 'surge'. With all the empty building around they could have easily set up a 50 bed temporary facility to take the strain...
Maybe they know it's not required, contrary to what the media and politicians are saying. There are 1,200 beds in Ottawa Hospitals and they have only x60 'Covid' specific patients...which are only there because they have underlying conditions being exacerbated by the virus.

There have been 3, 332 deaths (35% over 60 yrs of age) ...which is only 4% of those that have got the virus.

20,000 cases of Covid represents .13% of the pollution …..YES...ONLY 'point' .13% of people of Ontario have been infected with this VIRUS !!!
The death rate….is only .02% of the population.
While sad for the people who have been sick and for those that have died, it’s hardly a ‘pandemic’ that has the ability to wipe out our society.....the measure to control the virus have done far more damage to our society .

So how would the people of Canada react if the all governments both federal and provincial, said what you are saying..... Not a big a deal. Only 0.02 of our residents will die. Open up all businesses, because the steps we are taking to contain covid are futile. Let the bodies fall where they may...... All this while most of the worlds responsible governments are putting their citizens into a way more restrictive and severe lockdown. Some places have a curfew , and when you are found outside , you go directly to jail. Some people are still saying that our government was not doing enough at the beginning, even though everyone knew it was coming here anyway. There was no way to keep it from coming to North America. Do you want Canada to be the only country in the world to go a different route? Ya that will be good, we can say we lost 10,000 to covid, but we only lost X number to suicide. Many countries have already realized that you can't stop it and are learning to manage it. Keeping schools and business open and requesting personal precautions with social distancing etc. Let nature takes it course and allow societies to build up their own immunity.
The best way to combat (control) this, without a vaccine, is to allow low risk people to get sick and build up a herd immunity. Initial high deaths of people with immunocompromised systems skewed the numbers of how deadly the virus really is. In a healthy population it's far far less less than 1%...
Manage? Are you following the news overseas? In the past weeks, Italy , Spain, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Poland, plus many more, have all instituted, MORE restrictive measures than Canada has ever had. That is how those governments are 'managing' covid.
