Covid 2nd Wave....fact or fiction

I posted this statistical chart produced by Ontario Public Health few days back deep into another thread that has since been removed. So I will resurrect the topic, because I think more people should be made aware of what is being feed to us by the politicians and media is largely just fear mongering.

The facts about the 2nd wave:

This chart ( from Public Health) shows there has been a huge increase in the amount of Covid tested being done and of course a correlating increase in the number of Covid cases reported . Statically however, the Purple line on the graph shows, on a percentage basis, there has been no significant increase in the number of people testing positive ( I think I read it's about 1.4%). There is virtually no increase in the percentage of the population with Covid in Ontario today as there was back around mid June...

So where is this 2nd wave ? What is it based on ?

Last night, the Grim Reapers on CTV evening news expounded that there are now 3 people with Covid in the Ottawa ICU's.....2 weeks back there was only 1, a 3 fold increase !! Is that what is considered a 2nd wave ?

The population of Ottawa is about 1.4 million...and 3 people are in the ICU. Hardly overwhelming the City of Ottawa Hospitals which have 410 ICU beds.

I'm not a conspiracy 'tin foil hat' type guy, but I'm having a hard time not agreeing with the folks who are calling it a Hoax...at least the response to it by our government. The flu is real and people are getting sick and dying....but to consider shutting down the economy again under the false premise that there is a 2nd wave is not warranted, at least not based on the statistically facts from Public Health.

It's interesting, no doubt. I think what would be helpful is to cut everything prior to July 5th from that first chart.
The fact is, they weren't testing enough, and so the % are skewed WAY too high. I can take from that chart that unless you aren't testing 25,000 or more a day ... you aren't getting a good statistic. With the pre-July data in there, it just shrinks the % line in the months July to Sep, where it appears to be flat, but it isn't. In fact, if you look close in second half Sep, the number of tests jumped from an average of 24,000 per day, to an average of 36,000 per day ... so 50% increase. The % positive also jumped from around 0.5% to around 1.5% (hard to read because the data is squished so much). That is an issue ... really we went from 24,000 test per day x 0.5% positive = 120 per day positive, to 36,000 test per day x 1.5% positive = 540 per day ... that's more than a 4x increase.

In terms of deaths, we really won't see the impact on data for at least a 30 to 45 day period. People who get sick from COVID and die, don't die in 1 day ... it takes weeks and weeks and weeks ... so there's naturally a lag. The anticipation is we will start seeing the needle moving on deaths in the back-end of October.

The need to be locked down is frustrating, no doubt. It is also nerve wracking, because I still can't figure how we aren't going to end up in a huge economic downturn from this ... and more lockdowns will add to the pain. On the other end of the scale, we cannot end up with a pandemic so large that the hospitals are not coping and we have massive amounts of deaths ... we need to keep it under control, to the extent where we can cope.

So that's the balance ... we all know it. Some think that COVID is no more than a seasonal flu, and others treat it like it's Ebola. The reality is probably it's much worse than the seasonal flue, but far less of an issue than Ebola. We have to find a balance in reacting to this. I do not see the current situation of shut downs as sustainable ... but, on the other hand, I don't have any good solutions to offer, other than the obvious ... quarantine the elderly, rest of society adapts to situation, keeping the economy going, and practicing good hygiene including wearing masks.

I'm leaning toward 30% factual to 70% media "spin" and hysterics. Why they do that is up for discussion,but,I know I posted this somewhere else that all media has a vested interest in sensationalism to bolster circulation. Print newspapers are on the brink of financial collapse,their media broadcasting parent companies aren't far behind. Financial oblivion is a powerful motivator to indulge partisan politics when parties cough up hundreds of millions of $'s in "support".

Montreal is shutting down bars , movie theaters, restaurants I think , banquet Halls and a number of other things.

In Ontario the only second wave is in Toronto lol.

They say it will be alot worse mid October seeing over thousand cases a day. wouldn't be surprised to see more of Toronto shut down soon.
One case is to many for our government but remember they only want to slow it not stop it.

Many people think it will be over soon, like it will be better next year [emoji23]. We only need a vaccine and all will be good right ? Wrong what's going to make it any better next year ?or the year after? It's mutations are making it easier to catch but if I heard right less deadly . A vaccine isn't a cure-all and could take several years to even be effective. If it is something that sticks around forever what is the government going to do then ? Just forget it happed and stop all the funding or is this the new way of life ?

Somehow I think the US could be in better shape before we are . With heard immunity and a good vaccine not many will be able to spread the virus. Here we took the slow and long Rd it will ruin alot more in the long run.
Maybe trump will buy out Canada in a few years take the oil and flood the streets with more guns lol. Canada will be so broken if we keep going on this track who knows what will happen but it won't be good. Maybe even become a 3rd world country lose all our jobs with a corrupt government lol. I ask this question to anyone I speak about this with. " How many of you know of, in your circle on acquaintances, have either got sick or died" I have only one reply that they knew a guy with an Uncle how had it, but got better quick. If it is as bad as the media claims, there should be bodies all over the streets...

Just as an aside to this, I read a report indicating we have a 1.45 Trillion dollar debt now....if we were to pay back one million dollars a day, not including interest, that debt would take in excess of 3.9 thousand years...hard to wrap ones head around those kind of numbers. I haven’t checked the math myself...maybe someone better at math can verify those numbers.

Lets not forget to keep the numbers in perspective....the numbers that they are posting daily represent a miniscule proportion of the overall population.

The Population of Ontario is about 15 million....

The total of known positive cases (as of today) is 51,710...or .34% , yes .34 % of the population...less than .5% of the population have tested positive to the virus.

Today's frighteningly high number ( according to the news) is 600+/- new cases which represents about .004 % of the population.

And they are now talking of shutting down the economy , again, and spending $Billions more on emergency aid to those who are losing their jobs and businesses because of a perceived 2nd wave that statistically doesn't exist and is affecting less than .5% of the population.

Canadians did our part and flattened the initial curve 6 months ago and the threat hasn't returned, according to Health Ont numbers. So why does the fear mongering continue...what is the end goal of this government ??

This also explains why very few people know of anyone and why there are no bodies in the streets...they're scarce as Hen's teeth...

COVID testing true story: one of my coworker has 4 friends. They had to do COVID test for whatever reason. They lined up and signed up for the test. The test station close down for whatever reason BEFORE they got tested.
So they all went home.
Few days later they all 4 got the letter-You have tested POSITIVE for COVID!!!

Look no further than the barely-mentioned announcement last week that Peterborough has had almost 3 x as many fatal drug overdoses as they had by this time last year, even though they were on the same pace as last year before the lockdown. Suicides are up by similar numbers due to isolation, reduced access to treatment, bankruptcy etc. It seems obvious that dozens, probably many dozen, have died in Peterborough alone because of the lockdown.

One COVID death and wall to wall coverage.
It’s getting pretty obvious that those in charge value some lives more than others.

I DO know one person who died of it, a family friend in her 80s who came home sick from California days before the lockdown. Great lady but quite possibly would have been gone by now with or without COVID

Great article-how true.
Collateral damage is far greater-yet no one in position to change things ,considers a bit of it.

AND THEN-no one talks about the children growing up in masks-their view of life as normal will be -wearing mask? How sad and disturbing.

Once here a poster said about the COVID paranoia-we amputated our arm because of a papercut!

By they way-if it helps ,i know 2 guys they had COVID, one was suffering for a month to get back to normal life.
Gentleman in early sixties. I know this-because of him i was also in home self isolation for a week(why a week?-that is another aspect of this madness)
He got ill Friday-went to test on Monday(early spring that was the norm for testing ........)So he got told to stay home until the result comes out.
The result was out Thursday, and i was contacted by the Public Health Unit on late Friday(week later).
So-the 15 days of self isolation turned out to be 7 days for me.(Because Friday to Friday was the other part of it)
I could have infected 100 people from Friday(when he got ill-and i talked to him on that day-no masks at the time- so i became a suspect)til next Friday when I was told to self isolate.
Thanx GOD nothing happened to me.

Even today i can not wrap my head around this-either we do ,or we do not.How come inbetween is also good???
Where was-is the speed of testing here???Canada is not a third world country!

The other COVID guy just laughed all the way in the quarantine(i think and he thinks-he was just misdiagnosed).

Were all wearing bullet proof underwear on our faces, how could anyone possibly catch Covid? Were all masked up and reporting the highest numbers to date! Could it be , a farce....

All these folks hurting so horribly, all out of work, then tell me why I can't find men to work for me? I am working 7 days a week and turning down over 80% of the folks that call yet, a recession is hitting?

This whole thing stinks from top to bottom and the smell just isn't from my fruit of the loom mask.

I think what Fords doing is on the right path, however, Mr. fancy socks already has my grandkids grandkids paying off his monetary mistakes. i`ll be dust in the wind before all this crap is done.

Remember the masks that most are wearing are not to protect the user. Unless you are using n95 mask or better and have proper training on mask handling.

The protocols for covid 19 are the same for the influenza virus if you can catch one you can catch the other .


Too bad about your work it's been the same case everywhere. I think the government mucked up hard with the payments to stay home . Before you would stand in line all day for some food vouchers and loaf of bread. Now you call a number and have a few grand in about 30 seconds time.

It has fueled another crisis on its own between people not wanting to work and the scum that now has a free drug supply fully funded by our government. Sad .

Heard a case on the radio of a couples 'dependant' kids stayed home all summer pulling in the CERB while their family income of $135K a year was not affected. Wonder if the Tax man will at least catch this abuse of the system.

I saw one of those Dr.s on the news last night....he/they are right. I like their view in regard to the kids being adversely affected by restrictions:

" Global data clearly now show that children have an extremely low risk of serious illness, but they are disproportionately harmed by precautions. Children’s rights to societal care, mental health support and education must be protected. This cannot be achieved with ongoing or rotating lockdown."

They need to stop the fear mongering and the doom & gloom forecasts. Learn to live (like most European countries have) with the virus that isn't going to go anywhere anytime soon.

Well a little research will show you that, Spain, Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Greece, ALL have more stringent lockdown measures in place to prevent covid transmission, than Ontario. Better be careful what you wish for.

Family income? You can only income split with your significant other , not your children. So are you trying to say that the parents money is their children's money? Better not tell the tax man that. A lot of kids just got very rich if that is your thought.

Mom and Day will have to claim the dependant child's income. The CERB will be pushing most 'dependant' kids' past the maximum income allowed.

"The dependant's net income (line 23600 of their return, or the amount it would be if they filed a return) is $12,069 or more. However, if you claimed the Canada caregiver amount for the same dependant, the dependant's net income is $14,299 or more"...

So the tax man will get his cut. Then what seems to be the problem?

I have no doubt that we will experience a secondary wave or maybe even a tertiary wave. Spanish Flu, H1N1, & SARS also experienced the same models similar to COVID. BUT the key difference is what will be the magnitude and duration be of these waves. Will it cause more people to be admitted into ICU or will it be more of a statistical anomaly in case numbers - only time will tell.

As we all know statistics can be spun to make a mountain out of a mole hill when it benefits the story teller. I am not a conspiracy theorists.......but......with an upcoming election this is probably the best thing that can happed for Justin. Gives him more time to throw more $$ away and makes it look like he is making a difference.

It's fall. Most respiratory viruses will have an easier time infecting people. Droplets suspend in the air longer. Cold, flu and covid infections will increase. All scientific fact.

At the onset of this, there were far more criteria to meet in order to be given a test, so positivity rate would be high due to pre screening. Positivity rate will be much lower now with far more (and less targeted) testing. More cases will be identified with massive testing. Serological testing has shown that infection rate was about 4x reported numbers by June.

My guess, if you want a real picture of the current numbers without the "second wave" hype, divide daily case counts by 3 or 4 to compare to March/April numbers.

The thing that will really make you shake your head is going back and looking at March 17th when the state of emergency was declared and everything was locked down. 9 new cases and 190 cases in Ontario total.

People really need to think for themselves and filter all this stuff through a very fine mesh.

The outrage that was raised (it was a political debate) that a 'dependant ' child living in a household with an income over $135K should never have been able to able receive the CERB...their situation was not in need of "emergency benefits".

Apparently the lack of scrutiny in the application process has allowed a great deal of these stories...to the tune of an estimated $45 million. It was suggested that yes the CRA will be able to recover a lot next Apr.

The only reliable numbers are the hospital admissions, the ICU numbers and the death numbers....and even those are apparently being fudged ...ie: some poor sap dying of lung cancer, gets Covid and it's classed as a death due to Covid. Same with LTC patients, a lot were knocking on deaths door and Covid pushed them thru..listed a death due to complications from Covid.

Hard to get the truth from anyone, they all seem to have agendas.

I agree on that. Daily case numbers are easy to get caught up in. The truth is twisted so far out of proportion it isn't even funny.

We won't see the ICU and deaths increase for a while yet. When we're up to 2000 cases/day, things will likely ramp up. If they don't, should we still be responding to this virus the same way? Should we have at all? You can bet there's a certain amount of justification to the initial response happening here too.

Sooner or later we'll just have to get used to covid being a regular part of cold/flu season.

I have one cousin that got it. One colleague at work got it. Another colleague's wife got it (different person, and he didn't test positive for it), and a friend of my son's girlfriend got it. We also have close friends, who has a friend who's father died from it.

I wouldn't go down the road that this is all made up. There are people getting it.

But I understand your point about the reaction vs. the reality.

3,972 years ... let's call it 4,000 years IF there was no interest attracted on the debt ... which is incorrect. That level of debt at 1.5% interest attracts $21.7 billion of interest PER YEAR. Therefore, $1 million per day, or $365 million per year, inadequately covers the interest. It would take an infinite amount of time to repay the debt, because you cannot service the debt ... you would have economic collapse, and possibly a war, to cancel the debt ... only way out, IF you can only afford to pay $1 million per day.

Note that the rules were changed about 2 to 3 years ago ... for a child or elderly person (home owner's mom or dad) to be a dependent, they need to be INFIRM ... that means most people are no longer eligible to claim the allowance used for a dependent person. The child claiming CERB will claim the income as their income, and it will be subject to tax. But given CERB topped out at $14k, not much taxes will be owed. CERB eligibility I'm sure will be audited ... but CRA will only be able to audit a few ... too many on CERB. As long as you are eligible for CERB, you should be okay ... as long as you report the income and pay any taxes due. So a kid that was working a summer job, which they could no longer work because of COVID ... I believe fits the definition of eligibility, and therefore, they should get to keep the CERB payments, and only pay a little bit of tax, even if they are living with mom and dad who both earn much more income.

I see that this week we (Ont) now have conducted over 4,000,000 (million) Covid tests with 52,248 tests coming back positive...that is only 1.3% of those tested. I wonder what the standard is to be classed as a pandemic ?

Also see this week we now show accumulated deaths at : 2,851.... we hit 2,700 deaths on the 8th of Jul...so there has only been 151 deaths attributed to Covid in the past 90 days or so.

I believe the Ontario has on average about 1,800 deaths a year contributed to the H1N1 coronavirus.

Last night they've started to tell people to stop going in for testing unless you're actually sick...at the same time implementing further restrictions on Bars, Strip clubs etc...

I will bring up something very sad that has to do with the fallout from covid shutdowns and continued isolation.... over the last 6 months I have known either personally, or through my wifes social circle 3-4 people who have committed suicide.. to me this is very sad, and I would venture to guess the unintended consequences of these covid measures we are seeing a massive increase in suicides and mental health issues..the government will keep these numbers from getting out, but just think to yourself how many people do you know that died from covid this year vs the amount of people that took their own life and it is a very scary thought. I am not trying to point blame or stir the pot, however I think the mental health effects of covid have been far more devastating than we realize, and the worst part is I do not see things changing for the next 2 or even 3 years with respect to masks, isolation, grandparents not seeing grandkids, neighbours not socializing, etc. Many of the social and family aspects of our lives we look forward to have been supressed and we are feeling its effects..so much for "were all in this together" and stay home for 2 weeks to "flatten the curve"...

"Covid fatigue" is a turning into a real thing. We socialize with neighbors (outdoors and at a social distance.......driveway beers). We hit the woods and lakes on a regular basis,keep our distance from people,wear masks when necessary and wash hands regularly. The part that really chafes is not seeing the kids and grandkids like we used to,but,with social distancing,we manage just OK. It's better than nothing. We've tested negative,twice,to visit retirement residence parents, don't know anyone who has had so much as a sniffle (except for my allergies) let alone known anyone who has died from Covid. Every person I've talked with in the last month are turning a very skeptical eye to the Covid reporting are are getting sick and tired of it all.

You are not wrong and I don't think the worst of it has arrived. Next year might be worse especially when the government stops it's funding and many have nothing left . As of this morning,Ontario had 8348 active cases..........out of a population of almost 15 million. In the grand scheme of things,does the bottom line really justify shutting the province down,again,and driving the final nail in the provincial economy which will likely be years if not decades recovering? Somehow,I don't think so.

I think by the end of next week we will see some closures in the city . We should be seeing the thousand cases a day very soon. The health officials say it will be mid October when we see these numbers. Will not be surprised if we see the thousand mark in the next 3 days.

People don't follow guidelines even our own prime minister [emoji6] it's just a recommendation right [emoji849].

The cases are trickling north climbing a few each day. Last weekend when the thousands of vehicle's heading north I said look at all the covid heading north from Toronto lol. . Today is the same a mile long string of traffic to get out our driveway lol.

in the spring we had 700 positives from 6,000 tests, now were testing what is it 30k ppl to get 700 positives...I dont get the hysteria, I feel this is something we need to live with and manage and be as safe as possible while carrying on our lives, not shutting down the economy..we need to carry on and face this adversity and be as safe and strong as possible.

Public Health data proves the infection rate is stable at 1.4 % of the population and has been since Jun. All that has happened is they went from testing 10,00 people a day to testing 50,000 a day. I hear ya Mike, just going with my gut feeling that fall and winter months go hand in hand with colds and the flu. It makes sense that this particular coronavirus (there are a handful of them associated with the common cold), will take firmer handhold in the months to come.

We've already had a cold run through our household, kids have missed a full week of school.

A good harbinger will be the Hospitals....with the rapid test capability coming, they will be able to test and confirm Covid from the flu/cold. Then we'll see if the Covid cases are increasing substantially.

I saw an article the other day that wrote that the hospitals were seeing a surge in admissions due to the 2nd wave...they went from 7-8 patients a day to 10-12....seriously a surge ??? That's fear mongering.

I agree. I'm 74 with Parkinson's Disease ; my husband is 71 with diabetes. We are staying home except for once a month grocery shopping. Good thing we get along. :)

It's easy for the MD's and the Toronto Mayor to tell us all we should close businesses and stay home because they're pulling down $500K+ a year while everyone else struggles to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. Maybe all their pay cheques should stop,too. Let's see how easy it is for them to get by on a temporary CERB that's sure to be clawed back at tax time.

I feel exactly the same on that very subject. What were seeing is people, families suffering financially and struggling unnecessarily, while others are happy to sit at home collecting full pay, no worries at all.
Another economic lock down will be far more devastating than the first.
Until we change leadership in this country, don't expect anything positive in the near future for Canada.

One of the biggest problems is we're allowing international travel without any quarantine for certain travellers. We have Americans bringing the virus to our country and our PM is allowing them to go about their business when they arrive.

Pretty sad Gilroy when certain individuals are being forced out of their livelihood having their business forced closed while others are happy to sit at home getting full pay. My work pension check is based on my past earnings, what I have already earned, and worked for, so not relevant. CERB is based on lost wages, now . If you are talking about the old age pension, CERB would pay me more.

Not a single Politician or civil servant have lost any salary since the beginning of this Pandemic. Most were sent at full salary. Hard for them to comprehend that a lot of the public have lost their jobs and businesses due to actions of the government and have to survive on these CERB benefits.

Not a single Politician or civil servant have lost any salary since the beginning of this Pandemic. Most were sent at full salary. Hard for them to comprehend that a lot of the public have lost their jobs and businesses due to actions of the government and have to survive on these CERB benefits.

The government needs to start thinking like a business and not as an entity with bottomless pockets. By not doing this you are creating a two tiered workforce - providers and takers.

Mike, I was talking about the people that have used CERB to buy ATV’s etc and also those that were living above their means before March.

I have no issue with those that need it.

Well basically I just take common sense approaches, wearing a face mast, going up north for the Spring,Summer and soon fall. I think I might actually have caught it last December, me the wife and son all got a nasty dry cough that lasted about 3 weeks.So I think its been around awhile.Why would Trudeau recommend the use of a drug that the FDA does not even approve off? I am not jealous of Trump there's nothing to be jealous about.I feel sorry for the rest of Americans who are treated like second class citizens.There s no vaccine right now and even if there was one the right wingers would accuse the government of trying to poison them with the vaccine.

The Hospitals here had very little experience with this particular cancer because its so rare.The USA with 10 times our population had dealt with it so naturally when your life is on the line you make an informed decision.Not much choice for me,if Communist China had better testing and the Doctor was there I would have sent the tests there or Cuba.....

Yes we are but there is also no need to shut down so fast. Like jumping the gun with the first shutdown. Toronto's population is huge compared to the numbers of covid 19 they have. I bet the total amount of active cases in Toronto is less that 1 percent of the city.

So why are they begging ford to shut down ? Just to ruin another 50 percent of the city? . The next shutdown only needs to be a fraction of the time and we will see the same amount of damage from lost businesses. We are a tipping point and not just businesses but everything.

A more serious answer, statistics ... when rate of infection accelerates over a longer period ... you have a new wave. If infection rate is flat (or declining) ... it's not a new wave. Because there's many variables in the numbers reported ... it's inaccurate to base the assumption a new wave has started based on a few days of data, or even a couple of weeks. You likely need to compare numbers on a monthly basis to iron out most discrepancies ... and even then ... is August the same as October (flu season)?

Went to 2 grocery stores ... no paper towels at all... but there is toilet paper :-) .... the cream cheese at Metro had a best before August 22nd 2020 date and neither had watermelon too ... came down with a cold the other day for a couple days of sniffing and feeling tough ... and life goes on.

A vaccine by the time we get one will likely only work for perhaps half the strains I would suspect.... there are 6 main mutations and a bunch more minor ones apparently.

I generally just hang around home and my stomping grounds and the few people I hang with don't do much else either.

Me,neither. Our grandkids contact us by Facebook, Skype and good ol' phone at least once a week. I get out for groceries and beer as needed and mess around the yard to keep busy. Freezer and pantry is always full. Mrs.T's health isn't the best,so,if she gets sick,it will be a be a real bad scene. We're very conscientious about cleaning,masks,hand washing,but,not to the point of paranoia. I get out to the woods or the lake as often as I can,usually a few times a week to keep my sanity and Mrs. T can use the peace and quiet for awhile (so she says). We're doing OK,but,the sooner this political hysteria is over,the better for everybody on both sides of the border.

That's not good.

That would be the same as my mom or my wife. My mom is old (well compared to me) and my wife works in daycare and get sick easily to begin with.

But we continue on anyways, my wife still spends my money :) .

But I am very excited about deer hunting this year then I have been in 20 years, with the son that hunts he can now use a gun on his own
and we have deer coming to our stands, no guarantee but we get to finally hunt together fully setup.

The Hysteria continues. Since the day I started this thread the Covid 2nd Wave cases have 'soared' according to the politicians/media. So much so they cancelled Thanksgiving.

The TRUTH based on numbers provided by Health Ontario:

Back on Sept 30th the positive rate (cases vs tested) was 1.3%.....it is now (Oct 9th) ..hold onto your hats...at 2.0% ....a whooping .7% increase and they shut down the economy again.

Locally (Ottawa) : On Sept 30th there were 30 people in the hospital including 4 in the ICU..today (Oct 8th) there are 33 in hospital with 8 in the ICU.

Yes the city of Ottawa just went into lock down again with only 33 people sick enough to be in a hospital in a population of 1.3 million !!
For perspective, that represents 0.00275% of the population of the city are in the hospital with Covid.

A visual ref: been to an NHL game....see the size of the crowd...the Canadian Tire Centre (NHL) holds about 20,000 people. The rate of hospitalized people at .00275% represent .5 person. In a crowd of 20,000 people that is less than 1 person.

On the provincial level...with a population of 15 million....as of Oct 9th the Covid data shows that there are now 225 people in the hospital, with 47 in ICU.
That represent only 0.0015% of the population.

They continue to embellish the data that tracks the number of cases found...but continue NOT to provide what that statistically represents to the number of people tested and how that relates to the overall population.

There is NO proof in the data being collected by Health Ontario that the Covid virus is in a 2nd wave. ...unless you believe a .7% increase in positive results constitutes a statistical 'wave'.

True, the positive cases could go up from 50 to 75 or from 400 to 600...that's why case counts are meaningless and you have to look at Hospitalizations to get a better picture of how Covid is affecting the population.

Hmmm. My wife's best friend had to go into the Civic this past week for a severe ear infection. Guess what, not a single covid case in the whole hospital, imagine that.
Numbers are too easily manipulated, specially when there's an agenda like a planned second wave.
I know a guy who contacted our local health unit (Leeds Lanark Grenville) trying to get some info from them like which tests there are using, sensitivity levels, rates of false positives, justifications for mandatory masks etc. Basically all he got for a response was crickets and deflections.

I see Leeds Grenville (also my area) only has only 7 active cases (all community) ..4 of them kids from Hold Cross in Kemptville....that is a huge area. Hard to accept the media spin that is that it's spiralling out of control...HaHa..

my dad has been in ICU in SW Ontario for 2 weeks and the hospital looked like a ghost town, including the ICU
If the government published the deaths of all the people who will die of breast cancer (due to cancelled mamograms, screening,etc from March till this summer) and people who had complications after cancelled post-op doctors appointments, etc, etc we would all be in an uproad over this forced shutdown..we need to open our eyes and look at the big picture

Doing a quick google search shows we have 6 active cases here in Brantford, Brant County...... All 6 are self isolating at home.... none are in the hospital.... Brantford has a population of about 100,000 and Brant County around 30,000 (I think).....so with these numbers, I think we are in pretty good shape (knock on wood)

I agree with the both of you ,it's a shame the backlog of hospital appointments and procedures have not even recovered. Yet they are shutdown again .

If it was up to the health officials we all would of been closed or shutdown long ago. They have been calling for more shutdowns since the beginning of this so called second wave.
This is the way they wanted it many little waves the slow and painful way .

Since the the first shutdown our teen 16 has been to 2 small parties, she has a friend that comes over every week 1 or 2 times for the afternoon ,she also visits her friend. She found a boy friend, good kid he worked during the entire pandemic is now back in school. Has a license, hunts, fishes, got a truck a few weeks ago a good kid .

We let our teen visit his place every few days he visits our place every few days . Our youngest goes to brownies and see her friends.

Thing is kids need to be kids it's hard enough to let them go with more responsibility and live their life . You are only a kid once you only live once . We are in harder times yet we still have to live our lives just in a different way.

We did out part we stayed home for months, we are still doing our part yet we still have to live. Yes I was out for thanks giving no we did not have Easter well we did but just the house we live with. Halloween will likely be cancelled yet we will still probably dress up and walk a town to enjoy all the deckerations the residents put out .

Still haven't been to a Walmart since February kinda miss the place walking around talking to a few people we know and only run into out and about. Checking out the fishing deals . Haven't got any new tackle all year lol. My fishing season starts in a month. Walleye then the ice can't wait . Stick the the more expensive stores to shop hight end store less covid right lol.

Picked up a nice 8 man popup hut for the ice already have plans for a northern ice trip with my dad and middle kid . She will Skipp home school for a day hopefully learn to catch whitties and Lakers lol.

Still gotta live ,still gotta work life must go on with or without covid 19.

Just thought I would share this maybe I will be bashed but whatever lol.

Just saying we still have to live just learn how to live with with it . .

The most troubling thing is the fear they've instilled in the older generation, the ones who hang on every word of the 6:00 evening news and listen to the daily Covid 'Doom and Gloom' reports just before they go to bed. Yes the Virus is deadly and cautions need to be adhered to if you in that age group.

But to have the Village Idiot sitting there starting at the cameras saying the 2nd wave is much worse than the first wave and the hospitals are going to be overwhelmed is irresponsible and reckless when the facts do not to support that there even is a 2nd wave.

totally hear you and youre correct but thats not how you win an election. They make decisions based on polling numbers not science. They say they make science based decisions and they do, but only when it aligns with their political agenda and they pick the science they want to follow. And science can go both ways so its really subjective politics they play. Cant prove them wrong and cant prove them right either.

1 new death today in Ontario from covid . More lost theirs lives in car accidents today in Toronto. Hundreds died in Ontario today for one reason or another but just 1 from covid shut it down [emoji107].

Society would be far better off if Health Canada put even a small percentage of the money spend on Coivd toward the opioid crisis...it's killed more people in Canada in the 1st 3 months this year than Covid did...and reports say it's gotten worse since the pandemic hit.
